I just looked at the downlaods for Gal Civ 3 and now I see this:

"The above installer includes GOG Galaxy client for the full experience and the best support of all features for the game, including: auto-updates, multiplayer, achievements. "

I don`t want a 3rd party client. I don`t want all that. I just want the game with its usual updates.

I did not buy the game to get the GOG Galxy Client. This is also very deceptive because you released this without the Client, but now you force it WITH the Client with no way to get the Non-Client versions. So now it`s Mandatory.

This is the same crap Steam pulled when it was starting off in the early years. Think we would forget? You are supposed to be DIFFERENT to Steam, not like the rest.

WTF??

Just to clear things up for you:

During the installation you can uncheck the checkbox for installing Galaxy Client, and you can also click MORE->Classing installers to get the installer without Galaxy Client option bundled.

Oh, what a relief. Ok, if you`re telling us the truth then I sincerely apologise. I just was very concerned when that new notice suddenly popped up. However, I will remain watchful.

Yes, but it still increases the size unnecessarily.

Galaxy should be avaliable to download for those who want it, not added in for everyone - that doesn't make sense.

How about an option in the library to set the classic installers as the default download? That would help. Thank you.

I agree as well, this would be a good compromise for GOG, experienced users can get the normal download whereas newer users who may not know how to set this will get Galaxy and there'll be more threads of how to run games without Galaxy. (Though less than if Galaxy is shoved in are faces like it is now with some games).

This + add the following text:

"For the classic Galaxy-free installer, click on More and then select the Classic Installers option in the menu"

How does it do that? The Classic installers don't have Galaxy and are update just as often as the ones with Galaxy.

How about a newspost on the front page or a mail to let the customers know? If one doesn't follow the forum very closely, they have no idea about the changes and the fact that Galaxy-free installers still exist.

Yes, but the non-classic installers that do come with galaxy are bigger as they incorporate galaxy. The classic installers don't have Galaxy and so are no bigger. I got the impression from the OP that the classic installer wasn't avaliable and so they had to download the larger installer that contains Galaxy - something which they shouldn't have to do, even if they can install it without Galaxy.

The problem is that unless someone's been keeping track of the announcement thread (which is difficult to notice because it doesn't stand out from regular threads at all, plus not everyone reads the forums anyway) they'll have no idea about the existence of the Galaxy-free installers.

There really needs to be a note about this in the text that accompanies the download links for the Galaxy-bloated installers, ideally along with an option to set which installer type to present as default.
I don't see an option in the More menu to download classic installers in Galaxy itself. And why would the default option in Galaxy be to download the Galaxy installers? Makes no sense but maybe that's just me.

AFAIK downloading through Galaxy gets you the classic/Galaxy-free installers

As PaterAlf and adamhm have already posted there should be an announcement and also an option to set the default installer type for the user account is needed.

liquidBass:
That's right Galaxy users already have Galaxy installed.

And that's how bad the decision to include Galaxy in offline installers has been since the beginning.
Galaxy users don't need one more copy of the client and non Galaxy users (as myself) don't want Galaxy completely. It's just a needless change, so that an absolutely new (or dump) user will get galaxy with the first game bought on GOG and an (unintentional?) step towards the "games as a service" DRM trend.
