I've never witnessed a kickstarter reach it's goal this quickly and stall this hard when it got there. It must feel disappointing.

It's a common pattern for many campaigns to get most backing in the beginning and in the end, with very slow backing in between. So I don't think it's surprising in this case either.

If you backed a previous project of inXile (Wasteland or Torment) and back The Bard’s Tale IV before the 26th of June, you’ll get more bang for you buck:

Petrell: The Bard's Tale 4 - Paypal Pledges[/url]
1. They really should have allowed Paypal pledges from the get go, I know many who wouldn't touch KickStarter but would be happy to pledge via Paypal - I think they would have at least 50% more by now if they had it from the start, especially with the free Wasteland 2 offer.
2. Will they be calculating stretch goals base on KickStarter funding + Paypal pledges or must we semd money through KS to get them moving?

They didn't want to allow PayPal pledges until the initial funding had been reached. Remember if you don't reach your goal on Kickstarter, the entire campaign fails. So if 50% of the pledges were on PayPal, the goal wouldn't have been reached, and we wouldn't have a game to look forward to. ;)
Personally, I would have gone the same route as inXile as I wouldn't have wanted to take that risk. Especially if the KS failed, but the PayPal went through, and then those backers would not have had as good a game or inXile would have had to have gone through a (laborious, I imagine) process of refunding all the PayPal pledges as well.
Campaigns tend to keep a running total of KS and PayPal pledges for stretch goals. They just have to manually update people about the PayPal total. There's no way to link the two totals on the Kickstarter website.
However, from what I've seen on other campaigns, PayPal pledges don't tend to take off untill after the KS ends. Slacker backers, so to speak. From what I can remember, you get maybe a couple of hundred bucks on PayPal compared to a 50k total on Kickstarter.

But now they've unveiled a new FREE GAMES!!! offer, you're probably right, and more people who don't like KS will pledge via PayPal.:)
Which means more stretch goals reached! FTW! \O/

As per vv221's post above, if you can't be bothered to click on the link - you lazy people, you! - here's the new Free Stuff offer.

"Anyone who backed Wasteland 2 or Torment: Tides of Numenera previously, who also backs The Bard’s Tale IV at $20 or above, will get a FREE bonus reward (listed below) containing items from either Torment, Wasteland 2 or The Bard’s Tale IV!

"Additionally, any returning Wasteland 2 or Torment backers of The Bard’s Tale IV at $33 or above will also receive FREE copies of Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 from GOG.com, a special offer from our friends at OtherSide Entertainment.
"

tl;dr: If you backed Wasteland 2 or Torment previously, you get free stuff if you back Bard's Tale IV for a minimum of $20, and even moar free games if you back at $33+ before 26th June.

Paypal pledges are separate from KS so they don't count towards base funding goal (as KS don't get anything out of paypal pledges, there probably some clause in terms of service too). And you're wastly overestimating pledges thru paypal. They usually only bring from thousands to tens of thousands even in most funded KS projects. They do usually count towards strech goals at least during KS campaign as it's always usefull to show bigger numbers.

Ninja'd by Getcomposted, damn you. ;-p Should've refressed before posting.

Update #12: Enhanced Crafting Achieved!
So I'm not really familiar with The Bard's Tale but I have seen the game a few times. I saw this thread and thought "hey I wouldn't mind checking out The Witcher". I checked GOG and only found the first. Wondering where the other three games were I found the Kickstarter and got an even bigger surprise. Bards Tale I - III for free digitally to all who pledge over $20.

Oh my gosh, this is a deal! People take note, this is the way to do a Kickstarter.

Actually, strictly speaking, what you found was not the original, but rather a later game that shares the title, but is quite different. In fact, it's arguably not even the same genre.

Well darn. I knew that game didn't look like it was made in 1985. I guess I was thinking that GOG had some sort of version with redone cutscenes or something.

I see now. No wonder they spoke of bringing them to modern consoles without emulators. And that's also probably why they're listed as freebies. They're kinda ancient. But they seem to be getting good reviews.

I keep catching myself hoping the kickstarter has ended because I want to play Wasteland 2 :p

But then I remember I probably won't play till they release that updated version anyway :(
3 days left. I guess it might still boost up to 1.5 mill but that's probably going to be it.

Any news on the Wasteland 2 Gold edition's release date?
Crap, I didn't pledge before 26th on Kickstarter because of my expiring Visa card and did not know they allowed PayPal pledges as well. Ah, well, I guess I'll pass on this game and get the extras they offered seperately.

Still summer 2015 and nothing else so far.
