Senteria: Want strength? Wack with your sword, oh but oops your magic declines. Ugh I hated FF 2.
avatar
PookaMustard: Depends on the version. From the GBA version and onwards, there are no such 'declines'. For me, its all about being rewarding, and FFII was rewarding so to say. The more I powered up my characters, the less the bosses could talk about themselves and the more I showed them the show. And that's something I love in FFII.
Hmm I played the PS1 version. I also disliked walking in the wrong direction on the world map and instantly get rekt.
Not available for Windows Phone it seems. I just checked, and found Final Fantasy I and III, but no sign of FF II or the FF Portal-app :( I'm running the latest W10-build on the phone, so the store should be up to date. I've never played a FF-game, but I guess it would be cool to have a fully-fledged RPG on the phone.

What can I say though. That's Square Enix. They'll happily put up the latest Relic Run on Windows Phone (as well as HItman GO and Lara Croft GO), but how dare they put any Final Fantasy over there, other than I and III...

Well, I'll download the demos for I and III, and check them out. Square Enix is one of those developer that does not treat Windows Phone as second-class citizens, so I appreciate that. I'm really interested in Hitman Go and LC Go and will buy them at some point. Out of curiosity though, are there more FF's on mobile, other than the three first?

If you have an Android or iOS device, then you'll looking at... the first six installments alongside with other FF-games on Android, the first seven installments with those other FF-games on iOS (GET ANDROID FFVII ALREADY, SQUEENIX!!). Also for some reason, they're releasing FFIX for Android... well, if you're sharp, you'd ask yourself.... WHY SKIPP FF EIGHT SQUENN- *cough*cough*, sorry.

Bear in mind that: I and II are mostly PSP ports with touchscreen support, III and IV are DS ports with less emphasis on two screens and more on touchscreen controls (plus I believe III has controller support and above, if not, then IV has it and above), and with a 3D environment if that's a deal breaker for you, while V and VI are original ports with new graphics, with V built from the ground up again, in the original 2D environments nonetheless.

I'm not sure if you're right about calling Square Enix as a developer that doesn't treat Windows Phone as second class... if they really weren't, I would have seen IV, V and VI hit Windows Phone, and these surely are better than I and III (only V is better than II).

Huh, I didn't know that. That is a lot of FF's on other mobile platforms, compared to WP. I assumed that they were not treating WP as second-class citizens as I believed we had all their latest games (Lara Croft Go is very recent, and the Relic Run you mentioned). But SIX installments on other platforms compared to two on WP? Argh!

I did tell you in the first post. Oh, and if you noticed, that's not just the SIX installments. You've also got all the side dishes missing. Such I could mention include... FFIV: The After Years, FF Tactics, FF Dimensions, and the F2P FF Record Keeper. All of these are probably missing from Windows Phone. What irks me is that they either hit a release for Windows Phone or miss it.

That said, if you don't possess an Android phone... perhaps you could get said games through an Android emulator on a PC instead.

Ah, I wasn't sure if you were sarcastic or not in the first post, sorry :P I interpreted it as "how dare you rant about SE not releasing enough FF-games on WP, they have all their latest games on there!". Of course, I didn't know there were more than three FF's on mobile yet then.

I don't have any Android/iOS-devices, and I'm not sure it is worth the hassle to emulate the missing games, and it kinda takes away the point of mobile gaming. I recently saw a video of an experimental Android-emulator running on Windows Phone, so there is hope. That being said, I'm not sure I'd play the whole series through anyway. I've never played any of the FF's, but I get the impression that there are 30 games that take 300 hours each to complete.
It says free and then it says "after the promotion period users will be charged". What is up with that? :/

I did say 'how dare they put more FFs there', with they meaning Square Enix. So far, they're either nice to Windows Phone or not. Which is a bummer.

Well, you don't have to get the emulator to emulate the games... you can get the emulator to take advantage of the offer and keep it on your person via Titanium Backup or similar apps, so if in the future you got an Android phone, then you at least possess Final Fantasy II from the get-go.

Also, if you really want a starter on the FF series, you should really begin with V. If however it proves to be hard (though it will be not so much harder than II, its actually easy if you know what you're doing), then you should look at VII, then VI. It is said that the first five are hard, while most games beginning from FFVI and after are easy. Mind you that FFVIII has a trick to it, similar to II.

Eh, I'd chalk it up to some messy English. They had similar terms for the FFI promo, yet my FFI is still playable and without putting a single cent to it. I think they mean that after the promotion ends, in order to obtain the game again, you'll have to buy it, but you're not going to get charged forcefully for a free game.

Good advice, I might look into that. An Android-device in the future is not out of the question, but after some research, the Lumia 640 seemed to be the best bang for buck right now. It is a bummer that SE allegedly doesn't release more FF's on WP though, maybe it just doesn't sell that well on WP compared to other platforms, I don't know.

By the way. I tried the demo for FF1. How do I revive a character that has been knocked out in combat? :D

PookaMustard: FFIII: Little coherent story, grindingly difficult gameplay, and an even more difficult final dungeon where one misstep means.. yes, good luck retrying all of that. Oh, and the jobs system was its infancy.
FFIII: great and really Epic story (you fight Cloud of Darkness, the void). really difficult (that's a good point), the best jobs system (tha's a good point again)...
One of my top 2 final fantasy games (the first is FF7).

I'm talking about DS and mobile version, I never played the original Nes version

This kind of thing is really common on Windows Phone for some reason, so you should bear with it. Of course you can always be vocal about it, maybe... maybe the developers will think about it.

In order to revive characters in FF1, you have to go to a Sanctuary in a town. There you will have to pay some guy, and he'll revive your fallen characters. This is the way you do it early in the game. Yes, don't get K.O.'ed or else you have a fallen character until you're back to a town, not really good. When you have the money, you can buy Phoenix Downs from the item shops (they are expensive however, and are only available in the GBA, PSP and Android port of FF1), and much later on, assuming you have a mage, you could learn the Life spell and revive your party with it. You just need to be careful not to die in the beginning is all.
