hmmmmmm, what do you do with old windows games which can run under 32bit only?
i got win7 64bit and cannot run the installer from my cd :(
Which game are you talking about? Not all of them are salvageable, I'm afraid.
You should seek a x64 compatible version of the main executable file. Google it.

It depends on whether it's the installer that can't run on a 64-bit version of Windows or if it's the game itself :)

What? I thought that all the current 64bit OS were retrocompatible with 32bit! :O

They are. Each Windows version only supports its own and the previous generation, so a 32-bit Windows supports 32-bit and 16-bit executables, while a 64-bit Windows only supports 64-bit and 32-bit executables.

The problem is that installers for older games were frequently 16-bit, even though the games themselves were 32-bit. As such, even though the game might well run on a 64-bit Windows, you can't install it there. In some cases you can install the game on a 32-bit Windows machine, and then copy the installation to the intended 64-bit Windows machine.
Using various tools, like Universal Extractor with cheeky installers : )

As I said to phaolo, the problem is most likely that the installer is actually 16-bit.

You can in some cases get 16-bit installers to run on 64-bit Windows. I haven't tried it myself though, but this thread has more information.
Google a x64 installer. I managed to install Outlaws and Dark Forces II with some installers I found online (can't remember where though).
What Wishbone said also works, at least for Outlaws again.

I have never cross into a intaller that gives me problems, but the game it self. That happen to me with first 3 Resident Evil games. Luckly for me, Resident Evil 1 runs like a charm; can't say the same with RE 2 and 3.

IIRC, the installer for Dungeon Keeper Gold (disc version) is 16-bit, even though the game is 32-bit.
