hudfreegamer: This is tough.

I wonder if I could run the FearXP levels as a mod in the original game.
Most likely not, the expansions use different executables for a reason.
This is proving more difficult than I had hoped.

I've increased the prize from $10 to $20

(redeemable as winner's choice of GOG games, money via paypal, or a combination up to $20 value).

Has this approach worked for you yet?

hudfreegamer: What: Win a $10 GOG game of your choice. (Prize increased to $20 in GOG games or as money via paypal - winner's choice)

How: Find a way to completely disable the hud in FEAR: Extraction Point and FEAR: Perseus Mandate.

This contest is only for disabling the hud in the expansions, NOT the base game of FEAR.

-----

You can disable the hud in FEAR with the Devmode mod: http://www.gamewatcher.com/mods/f-e-a-r-mod/dev-mode

If you can make the Devmode mod work with EP and PM, even better. I don't know how.
Can't find your other thread, but have you tried something like this guy's suggestion for your online/offline needs? I remember you saying something about one computer needing to stay offline completely and using another for online stuff. The link is to a post where a guy describes a setup where he uses different OS for online/offline use (as well as different file structures). Maybe his idea can help you.

Cheers.
Remember, the contest is to disable the hud in the Fear expansions, not necessarily to get the dev mode mod to work with them.

I just found out that you can unpack Arch00 files with DragonUnpacker and make Arch00 files with the Fear Public Tools ArchiveEdit v2.

Experimentation log:

hex edited FEARL.Gamdb00p file
removed hud referemces
Able to remove everything except the grenade hud elements

Bugs: when hud is updated (like picking up armor or using slowmo) a bright white square appears in the top-left corner for a few seconds, sometimes longer).

Alternate method:
edited graphics to make hud elements invisible.

Had no effect on text. Game uses ttf font files, not images. Tried transparent ttf file replacement - caused game to use alternate fonts.

I don't know what to do now. Neither method really works.

Can anyone figure this out?

I know you're giving more than what is available for the winners there, but do you want this no-hud thingy in order to enter in the Vytho's contest ?

Edit: NVM just noticed your username :)

Btw we are going hard to hud-in-life with all this VR stuff that are surfacing all around these days.... (oculus rift, google glass now even microsoft has something like that)

Does anyone know how to bind keys to custom actions? I think if I could do that I could experiment with some commands I've seen referenced in game files like HideHUD, ActivateHUD, PersistentHUD, and others.

There is a PeristentHUD referenced in the profile. Sadly, the engine doesn't use a quake-like profile. Changing the file size seems to break the game, and it's not as straight forward as changing it to HideHUD in the profile.
I figured it out.

I need to do a bit more testing, but it works well. I've attached is screenshot from the first level of Extraction Point.

Congrats! I'm glad that is all sorted out. :)
I don't understand why the OP hates HUDs so much. They provide useful information.
Try it out and let me know if it works for you. Please tell me which version you're using (GOG, disc, steam, etc), your OS, and your video card.

For fun, try and come up with five reasons why someone might prefer to play games hud-free.
