And for nostalgic reasons: HeroQuest :D
Loopin Louie

It looks like a cynical marketing gimmick. One of those plastic kiddie games with batteries and something that moves. But for some reason, this thing is just plain fun! Won some awards, too.

One thing that make this game stand out is that it is not about winning. Instead, it is about staying in the game long enough for another player to loose. (Incidently, this makes it great as a drinking game)

Rules: Push your little plastic paddle to save your three chickens from being knocked down by the plane. The first player loosing all his chickens have lost.
I own but a few with a rather specific area of interest;

-Space Empires 4x + expansion
-Omega Centauri
-Hegemonic
-Twilight imperium 3rd ed. (no expansions, sue me ;p )
-Civ, the board game (FFG version, all expansions)
-Nations
-Ascension Rise of the godslayer/something
-World at war: The eisenbach gap+blood and bridges

Ever since nobody in my vicinity ever wants to play with me, I just solo all of these. Hegemonic, Nations and Omega Centauri are my favourites of the bunch, SE 4x and TI are close seconds.

And the others I just play less then they actually deserve, mainly because of time constraints ...
This weekend I've bought 7 Wonders Duel. I play it with my 8 years old son - and I must say we are having good time.
This is the first a bit more complex board game (not couting chess/checkers) he's playing and I'm surprised he has no problems with it. I guess the time for unboxing Space Hulk is close :-P
