The name of this company probably needs no introduction among the classic game fans. Founded in 1982, MicroProse gave us cult titles like Civilization, Railroad Tycoon, and Pirates!, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Today 3 more games from the legendary studio make join the GOG catalog. Check them out!

European Air War (-50%) is a combat flight simulator and a sequel to 1942: The Pacific Air War. The game allows you to choose between 20 historical fighter planes and fly missions during the Battle of Britain, and the Allied Air offensives in Western Europe.

Hyperspeed (-50%) is a unique mix of RPG, simulation, and strategy. As the commander of a giant starship, you must travel across the vast space to find a new home to house Mankind. On your way, you must use a combination of force and diplomacy to achieve this goal.

Starlord (-50%) is yet another combination of simulation and strategy genres. First, you must pilot your starship in a string of ferocious battles. They culminate in acquiring wealth and political power that will enable you to become a true Starlord.

Take your time and explore these 3 unique titles – until 19th February 2021, 2 PM UTC they’re available on GOG.COM with a 50% discount!

Their comeback is accompanied by a Special Sale that features exciting classics from different genres with discounts that rise by 15% if you purchase 3 or more titles from the list. This Special Sale also lasts until 19th February 2021, 2 PM UTC.
A curiosity in Hyperspeed is that the music in the intro is the same as one of the iconic music tracks years later used in Firaxis' Alpha Centauri game.
Great! Where are the rest of the Humongous games though? :P

ciemnogrodzianin: • $6.49 • -35% • Pajama Sam Vol. 1
Difficult to recommend at this discount given that we've gotten 50% off all the times previously, afaik. (The lesser discount is targeted at me because the people in charge said 'f that guy who wants more Humongous games on not-Steam' :P)

Still, 2 classic adventures and an arcade-y game for ~2.15 each remains decent imo (granted the arcade-y game isn't great like the two included adventures)

karnak1: Ever since I played a demo of European Air War many years ago I've been hoping for it to arrive on GOG. And now I'll finally buy it.

Thank, GOG. But please... European Air War needs game screenshots on its store page, guys :P
Screenshots have been added! =D

The three new additions are fantastic for any flight sim combat or space exploration/shooter fans, but EAW seems to be a specially polished release.

Traditionally it was only availabe in its physical boxed copy, and it was tricky to launch under new operating systems and videocards. Now it comes with two different configurable wrappers to have the movies, and intros functional, Option to higher resolutions than the original vanilla via tweaking the wrapper configurator and probably in both 3dfx or direct3d modes. It probably will not run in native widescreen but stretched. But out of the box.

Very nice! Thanks for the additional MicroProse games!

Would like to see these MicroProse titles too:

F-15 Strike Eagle III

While you're at it, add these Dynamix/Sierra On-Line military sims too:

A-10 Tank Killer 1.5
Silent Thunder: A-10 Tank Killer II
Aces of the Pacific
Aces Over Europe
Aces of the Deep and/or Command: Aces of the Deep

OK, a couple of considerations about European Air War after having played the GOG version for some minutes:

- Even though the store page doesn't mention it, the game features cloud-saving through Galaxy.

- The game runs very fluid and seems to play very well. I felt like I was playing flight sims on my keyboard back in the 90s.

- For some strange reason it seems that this version of the game only has "virtual cockpit" enabled. I know that the early versions of the game had static cockpits, like the old flight sims. I don't know if Microprose later launched a "virtual cockpit" only version and that's the version we have on GOG. Or maybe there's a way to bring up the old cockpits and I don't know how.
Still it'd be nice if we got that "static cockpit" version as well.
For better explaining, here're some photos of the static cockpits in the game and a video:

In brief, I think the game looks as great as I remembered it and I suppose it's a nice purchase for every WW2 flight sim fan.

Yes, I know what you mean.
The virtual cockpit is due to have a higher resolution than 640x480 enabled probably. I personally always prefered the static 2D cockpits. They were more detailed. So I always ended playing the game in SVGA and 3DFX. The world did not look bad at all. Simply less crispy. The palette and colours in the game have a very specific and voluntary art direction so it looks good.

Nice releases, European Air War seems fun.

Too bad there is no modern license holder who holds the right to the game Air Power. That game had a 10/10 atmosphere. Nothing like fleet to fleet battles with an armada of Zeppelins while you're in a plane. No other games from the 90s did capture a "Battle of Endor" as greatly as that game did.

trusteft: Excellent work. More titles from Microprose (and SSI and sSG) please.

Speaking of Microprose, I would love to see the first Railroad Tycoon and …Civilization.
The first Railroad Tycoon is free, thought it'd appear that 2K has entirely disowned the Railroad Tycoon series.

avatar
gandalfnho: Magic/Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
Good luck with Magic. That's just a rights nightmare.

As for TTD, why that over OpenTTD?
The video for Hyperspeed ends with a screen saying that it is now available on Steam...

Despite that I think I'll buy it here anyway.

Some people just want the original TTD. I am one of them.
