Gognarok: i'm already aware of the launch parameter from the task manager (it's also possible to display it there)
I am curious. How do you display exe parameters in the task manager?

in Windows 10 task manager, in the processes tab right click on any column header and enable command line.

in Windows 7 it was a bit differnet but also possible..

I don't see a listing for the new enhanced Quake (Quake Enhanced), which is currently available quite cheap at Epic.

I have this recollection of seeing a post about its DRM-Free nature in another thread, maybe posted by MarkoH01?

The sale at Epic ends on the 7th of January, and it seems a fairly clear bet now, that we are not going to get it here at GOG, any time soon ... though of course it could happen any time ... and even not ever, though that would be daft.

Generally I wouldn't care, but Quake remains my favorite game, and I am hanging out for the benefits, not the least the new mission pack.

So if it is DRM-Free in all the important aspects at Epic, I don't mind taking a risk and giving them a bit of money, which I can view as a thank you for all the free games over a few years now. However, if it is DRM, I can wait and either get it at GOG if it turns up soonish ... or some other DRM-Free way or method ... I prefer to do the legal thing though.

EDIT
Okay, I found a Steam reference ... maybe that is what I was recalling.

As usual per anything you find DRM-FREE on Steam or Epic (or anywhere else, for that matter) - I'd suggest to back it up somewhere else (CD, DVD, BR, external HDD) and keep that version static by not making that one a library that Steam, Epic, or any store will notice. You never know when an update can destroy the DRM-FREE aspect and part of a game over on Steam, Epic, etc...since they DO NOT advertise the DRM-FREE part there; it's not a sticking point on those stores - and you might want to revert to unprotected old-version, at some point.

I have Quake 1 on Bethesda (when it was given away free, before it became Enhanced) and that did get free-updated to Quake Enhanced. Also have it on Steam, since I've had it there for a long while (yep, I bought a Quake Collection from Fanatical some years back) - and yes, that got Free-Updated to Enhanced also. I always grab free stuff on services even if I own them elsewhere b/c - well, you never know when they might drop an updated version, remaster version, and/or DRM-FREE version somewhere. [shrug]

I don't have Q1 on Epic, so I don't know how it works at all for sure. I'd guess it might work similar to GOG and Steam-versions - you can run them DRM-FREE; you'll get a pop-up letting you know it can't connect to Bethesda.Net and you just say "Okay"; and then you can just move on - but, who knows if that's entirely the case there. I don't know for sure b/c I have them elsewhere - so if you do buy it for the cheap $4 pricing on Epic, would love to hear how the Epic-version operates and all; if it operates the same or not. My big question on Epic would be - is Epic store required to run in the background at all? Can you run "-EpicPortal" command to bypass the non-sense, if it's possible there?

And who knows if Quake Enhanced is DRM-FREE on Epic, according to PC Gaming Wiki for Quake 2021; it ain't listed yet there. Big "?" mark is listed for Epic version.

Definitely, and that is why I made a program to help do that for both those stores.

I have Quake and original Mission packs on disc and later re-bought them at GOG. I also have the first of the new two mission packs as a free download. Like you I would have grabbed any free version elsewhere, if I'd been aware and had an account with that site at the time ... wouldn't have created an account especially for just it though.

I guess I may end up as the guinea pig, though I am yet to make up my mind, especially as I have plenty of backlog. I am not keen to yet buy Quake again a third time ... or 4th if you also count the N64 version I bought way back when. I certainly don't want a DRM version, and be silly enough to pay for it. I guess I just have moments of weakness when it comes to new Quake stuff.

In all likelihood though, I suspect I will be strong and just wait for GOG to get it or another sale of it at Epic. Who knows, it may even popup as a freebie at Epic at some point.

As I am aware, as my program uses that wiki.

Yup, your program's awesome. For sure, keep up w/ the good work and all w/ it; it rocks. :)

Like yourself, I have a crazy backlog. So many games I just pick-up in Bundles from Fanatical & Humble mostly; and I'm constantly buying stuff on any store (Steam, GOG, Origin, UPlay, Amazon, etc etc) - anywhere I can get something cheap.

So, yeah - I definitely get why you'd skip Quake Enhanced for now...b/c your backlog's huge and/or you might already own a version of the game elsewhere.

Plus, who knows - never know if or when Epic and Bethesda might make it a freebie. [shrug]

I must have over 4000 games digitally, according to GOG. This of course doesn't also include a lot of my PC retail boxed games I own and any other services not-tracked and/or dead by now that sold games - in which who knows what that count is! This also does NOT Atari 7800, Genesis, Game Gear, Playstation (original), and Playstation Classic titles - in which that's probably around 300-500 altogether just in this sentence.

Indeed, like Quake 2 RTX.

While I keep records of my games, I have been somewhat less diligent with the many I bought for my kids and their consoles. I did start cataloging them once .. don't think I completed it, as that was well before my re-introduction to GOG and Steam, and taking up PC gaming again. Both my boys no longer live at home ... all growed up, and now have their own newer consoles for PS and Xbox. I still have all the consoles they grew up with, from PS1 to PS3, N64 & Wii, Xbox to Xbox One. I even have a Sega console somewhere. I also still have all the games on disc or cartridge ... collecting dust on their boxes. Daughter is still at home, again, but she's no longer interested in games these days ... too busy with her horses or friends or the two jobs she works or watching Netflix. She used to be big on The Sims and Singstar and Adventure games.

@OP, please forgive our momentary little off-topic divergence. :)
Well I stayed strong and resisted to buy Quake Enhanced while on special, and it no longer is.

I did however buy another game from Epic, as my thank you for all the freebies.

Once you see a game you like, you cannot unsee it.

Quite a while ago I saw the release of Open Country at Epic, and the name and cover image instantly appealed to me. Enough so, that I checked out the screenshots and video, even though I knew I would not be buying ... usually I avoid that lest temptation occur. Anyway I was impressed enough to at least wishlist the game, and of course every time I went to Epic, I then saw it on their main page ... so I was never allowed to forget the game.

I've also seen it on sale a few times, most recently until yesterday for half price.

I had a $15 AUD coupon that runs out tomorrow.
Today the game went back to its full price of $22.99 AUD, the minimum for my coupon to be used.
So I said what the heck, and bought the game for $7.99 AUD ... a few dollars less than its recent half price.
I took a punt that it might never turn up at GOG, and it might even be DRM-Free. Nice surprises happen sometimes.
It's just one of those rare games that really appeals to me, and only my second purchase from Epic in over two years.

Hopefully I will get a chance to check out its DRM status soon.

Gods Will Fall seems to need the client, I ran through the usual options and all gave a black window before exiting.

It's got a very verbose output including many reference to epic including:

[EpicManager] Not Launched Via Epic Launcher, Closing Down

So seems to clearly need the client.
hello. I have epic games launcher on my home computer aswell as some of the games on the list. can i somehow install the game on a separate laptop? I dont have admin permission nor directx runtime i dont think. atleast it doesnt seem to work. im not very good with computers so if there is a solution please explain it in a simple manner.

To "install" on another PC, just copy the game folder over. For DirectX or other dependency errors, try installing some of these (particularly the Visual C++ and DirectX9.0):-
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/does_anyone_know_the_libraries_and_other_software_required_on_a_clean_install/post4
hello. i have transferred the game and everything to my second computer now. however, when i try to play, it gives me this message;

Note: Shaders failed to compile when launching the game. You can try restarting the game, restarting your computer, or reinstalling the game if this continues to persist. Otherwise, a video card with Shader Model 3.0 is required to play.
We cannot detect that your video card supports this.
Additionally, you can try running the DirectX 9.0 updater and changing to DirectX 9 in the graphics settings. graphics _ changing

(the message pops up in the game window, not as one separate error window)

I have restarted the game and my computer.

I THINK i have directx 9, however you may notice that i am not a computer expert. I am not sure what my shader model is. I am doing this on WIndows 10, without any admin permissions. and it doesnt seem like i can install / update directx without admin perms.

so I just wanna know
A) what this message means and;
B) if theres any solution to this

thanks
