MarkoH01: By the way: after the latest build the then DRM-free Subnautica now needs the client to run. So it#s no alternative to GOG.
I'm running it directly from the .exe on my Win 10 machine with no troubles at all.
I haven't played super meat boy on my computer yet but does it run without the epic games launcher like subnautica does?

EDIT: nevermind. epic might be on to something here lmao.

Like steam. It's the same.
Really ?
I have the Steam EULA open in a 2nd tab, and I can't see anything like Epic's EULA.

Then I doubt that you have updated it. The first build 61919 is working the actual build 61951 is not working anymore. It's hard to believe that this DRM is Win7 (which I use) exclusive - could be ... but why?

Also I found out which file is responsible for the DRM by comparing both versions and a bit trial and error.
The DRM'd file is a 3MB file called Assembly-CSharp.dll and is located in Subnautica_Data\Managed
If you excchange it with the file from the first version the game will start without the launcher again - even on Win7 ;)
Epic was never a DRM-free store. It even says this in the License agreement:

2. License Conditions

You may not do any of the following with respect to the Software or any of their parts: (a) use it commercially or for a promotional purpose; (b) use it on more than one device at a time; (c) copy, reproduce, display, perform, or otherwise use it in a way that is not expressly authorized in this Agreement or its Game Specific Terms;
So it seems that even making a backup copy of an Epic game would be against their EULA.

DRM-free means that there are no additional measures added that will prevent you from doing copys ect. So no copy protection of any kind and they said so (have to search for their interview but I know they explicitely stated that they don't have any DRM in their store and that devs would have to add it if they want it.

Edit: Found it
"Here are Sweeney’s answers to some of your most likely burning questions:
No, there’s no store-wide DRM, though game developers can add their own."

I don't care at all about their EULA since most of this stuff is not even valid in Germany (as are most EULAS in general). Making copys without giving them away - I am pretty sure - is without any problems at least here. Don't know how Epic sees ist but tbh I don't care.

No surprise with Meat Boy - even the Steam version was running without the client. Its seems the devs don't need DRM.

Damn. Too late for me, I didn't make a backup of the game folder when I installed it and now I've got a game that won't run when I open Subnautica.exe.

No surprises there. :(
Free games are nice but it's not going to make the platform any good or successful, just look at EA's Origin :P
Sucks to suck, another random client in the heap.

I'm going to assume most people don't care about DRM/always-online stuff. Maybe they are just young kids.

And DRM patched in with a later version... when other publishers sometimes actually remove DRM after the initial sales...

My interest in this store is below zero now...

Ubi have included denuvo in a patch for Heroes of might&magic 7. Befoire this patch, Heroes wasn't not protected by denuvo.

Like steam. It's the same.

If Valve want modify some aspects of steam service, Vavle can make it at any time evenf if it's not indicated in the eula.

It's the same as epic.

That's why I don't use Steam, UPlay, Origin or Battle.net either...

Thank you for helping me to decide if Epic was worth a try or not (spoiler alert: it's not).
