springtoiffel: I've been downloading Doom (60 GB) for 5 days !!!
And without all the multiplayer crap it would be 20-30 GB lighter. Seriously, that's how much bloat it got when they decided to roll into the base game all of the multiplayer stuff (that noone asked for) for everyone. Such a waste of bandwidth and space.

indeed. I've not even played that multiplayer once and I never will.

There is currently an issue with the downloader, our teams are looking into this. I'll be posting updates as they come. Offline installers are still working. We understand any frustrations you may be having but please bear with us while we work on the issue.

As mentioned, I will feedback updates as they come!
I have a Galaxy-related question. I have used it in the past only for a few days, just to test how it feels playing GOG games through a client (and that was my whole experience with it). I have not tested its download features for backup installers. Does it re-download installer files & delete the previous ones without checking (like the GOG Downlader)? Or is it more advanced (i.e. checking for updates & only updating files when needed)? Lately I use gogrepo.py for backing up, but I would like some less manual way of achieving stuff like that :) (don't get me wrong, I like gogrepo a lot, I just wish things were more automated with a nice GUI)

Starting a game within Galaxy is pretty much like sitting down at the dining room table before getting up to go to the kitchen to open the refrigerator. Might as well as started in the kitchen instead, t.i. the application menu or application folder on your computer. It's faster.

Technically, Galaxy is still a manual approach, not automatic. You've got to start it in order for it to do anything. It isn't running in the background like an updater for the operating system, and Galaxy doesn't download and install stuff if Galaxy has been exited.

I think Galaxy is perhaps more manual than a CLI because of having to move your hand all over the place to move the pointer on the screen. Maybe you don't type as many different kinds of buttons (keys) as with the CLI, but a PUI is not really any less manual, just different movements. If it had macros, then I would think it had some sort of automating abilities. But it doesn't.

And speaking of a "way of achieving stuff like that", I wonder when Galaxy will get achievements for itself. "Unlocked Achievement: Visited your games library 50 times." "Unlocked Achievement: Sorted your installed games in every way possible."
downloader is working again.
just opened itself with the game I meant to download this morning.

Thank you. I didn't know if it was just me or everyone having this problem.

And to the people who keep saying not to use the downloader tool, hey, I like it!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, but you didn't really answer my question (does Galaxy auto-check your backup installer files & only update if needed?). Also, excuse me if I gave you the impression that I'm some kind of "noob" (is this the correct term used by small kids today?), I actually am a programmer & have my experience around CLIs and GUIs. In terms of usability, e.g. for gogrepo, I also have to first open the command line, enter the path to gogrepo.py & then try to remember all usage args for what I need to achieve (check only updated games, check for new games, skip my hidden ones, etc. etc.). I am not complaining or anything, I just believe that a GUI would relieve me of such tasks & do the magic in the background (e.g. in gogrepo how do you exclude a specific game? do you remember all IDs of all your games?).

edit: just wanted to clarify that my reply was not written in an offensive way, so I hope you don't take it the wrong way (I just re-read what I wrote) :) I personally use gogrepo very often, I like it very much & my reply does not "bash" gogrepo as a tool

So is the downloader unsupported or not.? If you're (GOG, not you Linko90 personally) investing time and energy into fixing issues, it's not dead, but the team said it was officially unsupported and would not receive any updates... I has a confused.

It's both. Offcially unsupported, in the sense that gog doesn't "have" to keep it functionning and warns that it may cease to. But it seems that, beyond this, GOG still tries to fix it when it breaks, "on the side", just out of coolness.

And I'm fine with that. So fine with that, actually, that it pushes me to buy some expensive-ish game that I had sworn to patiently postpone until strongly discounted. But there. Full price expenses deserved for things like that.

I'm cool with it too. I don't hate on it... But I stopped using the thing because they said it was unsupported.

I was referring to your interest in a "less manual way", and pointing out that to me it doesn't seem like Galaxy provides a less manual way for a few things you mentioned. If anything, more to do or sometimes just different, like clicking on a command instead of typing it (either way, that the command exists and what it is still has to be remembered, or jotted down in a note somewhere).

Perhaps your focus is maintaining a set of installer files for your games, in particular the latest versions? Have you tried to access such a list of installer files from within Galaxy (while you are trying it out)? My understanding is that it does not provide such a listing within its interface.

Games installed? Check. On the lefthand side. Games that can be installed? Check. Your games library. Installer files? Doesn't seem like it keeps them. But do have a look and see whether you can find something within the Galaxy interface. If not, then Galaxy is probably not going to be an acceptable replacement for that. I recall someone saying there is an option in the menu on a game page for an installed game (by clicking on the game in the Installed Games listing on the left side) to reveal the folder with the installed game. Maybe that menu is also where an option for revealing the installer file would be.

There is supposed to be a way to prevent Galaxy from auto-updating the games, even on a per game basis. So, in a way Galaxy can update the installed games. Whether it keeps the installers afterwards would seem to be your main question.

If Galaxy actually does keep the installer files someplace, but just doesn't provide the listing in its interface, then that will probably mean having to dig through the files and folders of the system to reach those "backup files". But that's still a PUI, the operating system's file explorer application, so in a way that fits what your looking for (replacing the CLI approach).

Not sure that matches with whatever routine you are trying to replace. I mean, you seem to be asking for particular detail. It seems to me if you don't see it in the Galaxy interface, then it simply isn't provided. Having to figure out workarounds for a new approach seems potentially an undesirable replacement for a current routine. But hopefully it's just a matter of discovering something that is already there.

BKGaming: either Galaxy or Browser (or Browser + Download Manager).
That's exactly what we've been trying to use: browser to get to the Donwloader links, and gOg Downloader as the download manager.
Y'all keep saying that the downloader isn't supported anymore, but I've read that Galaxy will never be required and they'll always give everyone the option to download whichever way we want.

This seems to be contradictory, unless it's like saying, "Well, you can smash your head into a sharp rock and kill yourself, but we don't support that."

Galaxy is optional because you will still be able to use the browser to download your games. Even though GOG downloader is not supported anymore they still provide GOG downloader links and in this case ... well ... support. So I see no reason to complain.
