problem is a devs / researchers only want to hear half the idea or story.
everything else that is work, effort, detail. they trash for getting the game done instead of making a game worth it.
and they sure as heck wont give you a job or money for your effort.

an elite will say "an idea is worthless"
However will, market it, make it and sell it.
worthless indeed

It's Quake V. Call it that and you'll likely adjust better.

Given how completely the Quake series tended to change between games, couldn't you pretend pretty much any given FPS is Quake V? Granted, I am no expert on either franchise, but it seems to me that just by the virtue of being a single-player game about killing demons on Mars there's more consistency in Doom than Quake ever had.

This. The only shared identity the Quake games seem to have is brown ;-)

Does single player even have a story? I mean, beyond blowing shit up for kicks.

As for multi player:
Never understood the the idea.....Whats the point of running around an arena, blasting your apponents that spawn back in a flash a moment later? Permanent death arenas make sense. Respawn seems silly.
Personally, and as much as 2016 was fun, I'd rather that they'd continue in the same vain as the 3rd one, as in more horror than tame rock star action. And look at that fantastic price. Lovely :D

"Developers need to get comfortable with many gamers not buying into their overpriced, buggy, and sloppy made games/consoles, because why pay too much for shit you can't even own!".

Story? Oh yeah, pretty deep and mind-blowing, both literally and figuratively.

It's there if you pay attention. Though it ends on a sort of cliffhanger and then Doom Eternal just jumps far ahead without much of an explanation. I really hated that about Doom Eternal.

Doom 3 is still the best one IMO.

Come to think of it, I did play Doom 3 many years ago. But, aside from escaping the bad situation the main character was in. I did not notice much of a story. I wasnt expecting Shakespeare, but I thought it may have some depth. Which...I guess it didnt, as I forgot about it, beyond having played it to completion.

Yes, the single-player Doom games do have a story and narrative. Granted, the original Doom games didn’t have much in terms of in-game storytelling, but there was a backstory about the Doom Slayer included in the manuals.

From Doom 3 onward, including Doom (2016), Doom Eternal, and now Doom: The Dark Ages, the series has included a much more developed and explicit narrative.
