I have never donated blood. I've always been too scared to do it. Blood just kinda creeped me out.
Then, a few months ago, I was hospitalized due to a massive GI bleed. I almost bled to death, and required a transfusion. I was given two units of blood.
Some strangers decided to donate blood, and it saved my life. I decided that day in my hospital bed that I would donate blood as often as I could. Maybe I can help save someone like others did for me.
Unfortunately, I am not eligible to donate blood for another 9 months.

**
**CONTEST CLOSED - But please feel free to continue talking about blood donation. It is an important topic, and I'd love to continue raising awareness.**
**

Fortunately, I can still donate Blood.

So here it is -
One Unit Whole Blood. I'll be donating 2 copies (2 winners, one copy for each.)
(They are GOG codes)

Rules
-Say "I'm in" if you want to be in
-Only enter for yourself
-Only redeem for yourself (if someone else redeems it, I will go apeshit on you)
-The contest will close in 66 hours. That is ~1745 GMT on Tuesday. (I think - correct me if I am wrong.)
-The two winners will be chosen randomly by a paper drawing

Optional topic - donating blood. Do you or don't you? Why or why not?

A big +1 to you. I am not in. Interesting story you shared. I myself have never needed donated blood (and hope I never will), nor have I donated some myself. I guess because the serious thought never crossed my mind. But in case of need, I could. I am not afraid of seeing, touching or losing blood, so it wouldn't be a problem.

By the way, the third rule (actually, what you said in the brackets) just made me laugh. I think I woke up my roommate :P

Not in, but a big thank you for the awesome giveaway and for sharing your story.

I have donated blood since I was 17, mainly because my parents both did it and I liked the idea of helping people. I used to donate blood once a year, but a few years ago I was at the receiving end of a blood transfusion when I was attacked with a knife, and this made me increase my donations to between 2 or 3 times a year.
+1 on giving the gift of life! Blood donation is so important and I hope your post inspires others to donate. I have donated since I was in HS. If you don't want to donate to save a life, at least do it for the cookies! :)

Great idea for a GA, but not in :)
One of the best 3D shooters ever. You will make one lucky person, very happy. +1

I'm obviously not allowed to give blood which sucks because blood donors have saved my ass on more than one occasion, wish I could pay back the favor.

Anyway not in, but I thank you.

This gave me a good chuckle. I'm sure it was serious but I do like how you described what you'd do. While I wouldn't use those words, I would definitely feel the same if, after I defined such terms, it backfired with inconsiderate people.

So anyway, I am not in. I have not donated blood because I never gave it a shot. I guess I never took the time to do so. I never received a blood transfusion, but had my fair share of IV drips in my life while in a hospital (I know it is not comparable but it's the closest thing I can think of to relate in someway). If I went through what you went through, I would definitely give it more consideration. I commend all those who take the time to do so, it is a very generous action and one we should all probably consider more often as a way to help each other out.

Thank you for your giveaway and +1 for your efforts in bringing more awareness to donating blood. :)

Aren't you afraid that the vampires that run the blood banks (they all do, there is no denying this FACT) will get a taste for your blood and make housecalls?

I kind of miss donating blood, but I got rather pissed off at the homophobia and stopped donating. If they change the rules, I'll probably go back to donating, but I didn't think the homophobia really added to the experience.

Not in. Glad you came through that okay. A family member had similar experience. It's amazing how much blood you can lose. Whew!

I don't donate. Simply because I am not healthy enough to.

Cheers!

oh, that problem never occurred to me. that sucks. one day people will be... less assholish.. well no, not really, but about the LGBT community, yes.
I'm in.
Not in but thanks for a wonderful giveaway! Unfortunately, I'm unable to donate blood. Mad Cow Disease :/

EDIT: Just to clarify, I do not have the disease, but lived in the UK for a period of time when Mad Cow was a concern - which makes me ineligible.

Not in, but thanks for the giveaway!

I've wanted to donate blood before, but I don't weigh enough. You have to weigh 110 pounds and I've always been around 95 to 100 pounds. I think it's a really great thing to be able to though, it's easy and can help save lives.
Not in, but a very clever giveaway. +1
