I was very careful to not respond to any of your attacks (sorry, 'challenges') troughout the entire discussion. All I tried to do was to bring up valid points about complexities of the game and the genre as a whole. I don't think there's anything to misunderstand about your points, there's nothing sophisticated about them as you have voiced in this discussion. Yet you're exceptionally eager to ignore every single one of my posts - which doesn't upset me, after all you're not the only one I'm writing them for - but then you turn around and say nobody argued with you without letting his 'ego' into the discussion?

drealmer7: I'm sharing MY point of view, MY thoughts, why am I not supposed to use those words? I initially only talked about the game and its impact on PEOPLE, I didn't apply it to anyone specifically until people put themselves into it by taking what I said personally.
You spent an entire paragraph over here talking about how complex your point of view is. If that's not letting ego into a debate, I don't know what is.

snowkatt: and while we are at it the spanish version of the 1931 dracula is also excellent
a lot more animated
ABSOLUTELY. The difference is AMAZING. Definitely get your hands on the Spanish version if you can.

Anyone seen the original Nosferatu with Type-O-Negative's "Bloody Kisses" dubbed over it? It's quite amusing.

Klumpen0815: I really wonder why they didn't make it Hellfire compatible
avatar
phaolo: Hellfire? WTF?
Ah.. oh.. actually this is the only non-OT post since a while XD
Yeah, I was just gonna say! Coming in here and mentioning something related to the thread topic!? The nerve of this guy! :P

Since we are there, I liked Hellfire though I never had a chance to play it that much so maybe my assessment isn't fair. While I loved the Monk I thought the game kind of failed to deliver on him in that they advertised him as some sort of martial arts master, but if you actually tried to do anything with him minus a weapon you quickly got your ass kicked! XD

The D2 expansion Assassin was much more what the Monk should have been. I won the whole damn thing using just her, a couple of wrist blades, and next to no armor.

pimpmonkey2382.313: Never had a chance to see the remake yet, but do own and love the original.
Personally, I think the remake with Klaus Kinski is shit compared to the original with Max Schreck.

I agree, that's why I mentioned the needed improvements. The monk was shit but had potential so it would be great to have an improved version of him available in Beelzebub as well.

You are right, I should be ignoring the other's posts and not yours, you do have valid points and I should be addressing them rather than allowing the derailing to continue.

Right now, garden preparation calls, I will try to get back to some of your points later.

ElTerprise: Are there significant differences between the german and english version of the remake (apart from the language of course ^^)?
avatar
snowkatt: yes
the movie was shot twice by the same actors and same crew
once in english and once in german

there are small subtle difference between the two

the german version is better but only slightly

and while we are at it the spanish version of the 1931 dracula is also excellent
a lot more animated
Okay good to know. I saw the movie only once on tv - most probably the german version.

He's basically saying the same thing the rest of us are, just stated in a much more eloquent way.
Oh and there is only ONE TRUE vampire movie!

I just recently saw Herzogs remake again, having first seen it many, many years ago, and I think it's great. I never really got into the orginal film. I very much appreciate and respect it, but while a lot of it looks great I guess I'm just not a fan of silent movies in general.
The remake is very creepy, with great atmosphere. I particularly like the voyage of the death ship that carries Dracula. It's my favourite part from the book, and this is as close as I've seen done right on screen. Still, Coppola's Dracula is still probably the best adaptation I know, despite very uneven casting. Shadow of the Vampire is also great, both creepy and funny, one never taking away from the other. I have yet to see the Christopher Lee version of Dracula. I know, I know, I should have watched it years ago. I do my best, I'm only one man, and I already have less of a life than Orlok.

the original is a great movie despite being silent the silence actually enhances the dread atmosphere

i think coppola's movie is so so while its quite close to the book im not really much of a fan of it

i have seen the hammer dracula version
its a great movie but plays it loose and fast dont expect any sophistication here
its in color with blood and gore

hammer's usual approach to horror is to ramp things up
more violence
more blood
more gore
and more color

they are good movies and have their place but arent exactly classics as far as i am concerned

and dont forget young fronkonsteen

snowkatt: and 3 is a bloody grindfest
Why? I nearly beat Diablo on the original release difficulty when the game was at its hardest without ever bothering with farming gear.

Gear is ultimately pointless. Whether you have 100k health, or 350k health, it does not matter if you are not having fun. Mechanics and fun > stupid gear progression.
This nosferatu talk got me to put in my dvd of it. :P
Diablo murdered my CD-ROM drive!

A digital re-release of this game would be good as there was nothing more disconcerting than hearing my CD-ROM whirring at top speed the entire time I played the retail game. They should have rather allowed the music to be streamed from the hard drive

But it sure was an addictive game.
And I would like to hear again Diablo laugh from luncher, can't find it on youtube. :(
