GOG are getting obliterated on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gogcom/

Some people are apparently returning Cyberpunk 2077 just because of Devotion.

Oh this is so satisfying. They deserve all of the burn.
Another possibility, which would also explain them removing themselves from Steam: they want to avoid the possibility of 50 cent army's chargebacks, which they might likely do after purchasing the game, stopping payment, and then making bullshit excuses about it, or other reasons regarding it.

That explains why they decided to remove it from Steam themselves and not put it back, the "gamers" GOG heard, and why Red Candle Games is as understanding as it is and hasn't hosted it back themselves.

That would also put GOG's tweet in a less damaging light, but they've still avoided being direct about it, and either could have stated it. This could be explained by the language barrier to Red Candle Games and GOG not being able to explain it themselves without speaking out of place.

Disclaimer: I still feel that it should have been included into the GOG store, and if anything, they could have been more transparent about the shenanigans that the game would have experienced once it got released by using it to spearhead scamming & accountability tracking.

In https://www.cdprojekt.com/en/wp-content/uploads-en/2020/12/call-transcript_en.pdf it says
This caused the loss of gamers’ trust and the reputation that we’ve been building through a big part of our lives. That’s why our first steps are solely focused on regaining those two things.
<snip>
We will do everything possible to prove that we stick to our values. We truly hope that our efforts will let us rebuild the trust we have lost.
Can somebody explain to me how GOGs behavior(*) in respect of 'Devotion' is consistent with these statements?
Is there something I dont see?

(*) First not releasing it after previously saying they do. Second blaming "many gamers". Third not responding to the public reaction.

Seem's like there only worry about CP 2077. Which issue is losing them more money right now?

If I had to guess, I'd say it might be because they are a bunch of manipulative, fucking cowards who sit surrounded by "We Are Rebels" posters while simultaneously trying to figure out a way to suck CCP's dick and lick their ass at the same time.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: That depends on for how long we the customers, and also games journalists, keep the pressure on GOG regarding this matter.

The management at GOG is probably hoping this disaster will "blow over" a few weeks, and so their current strategy is just to "wait it out."

But if we never allow it to blow over, then that strategy isn't going to work.

Similarly, if games journalists keep writing articles with headlines like: "GOG ducks questions about why they banned Devotion," then eventually GOG management is going to become tired of having GOG/CDPR's name dragged through mud, and thus they will become compelled to provide real answers, even though they do not want to.

Speaking of which, a bunch of us should email Jason Schreier and ask him politely if he will please use his insider sources at CDPR/GOG to tell the public the real nitty gritty details of why GOG banned Devotion. He has the power to get answers, should he choose to investigate the matter.
Cyberpunk is more pressing matter for CDPR right now and more newsworthy, I doubt Jason has time for this yet.

I guess this will add some fuel on top of current Cyberpunk incident if he does invest in this.

IMO, being the 50th guy to cover the same topic is less profitable than being the first guy to cover a topic. CP2077 is a hot story, which also means everyone else is covering it, which also means your cut is going to be weak. A story of communist China's attempt at controlling the world through information warfare, citing the same morons who are already making headlines, is likely to pull in alot more people, actually, because this affects more than gamers, and can easily turn into a much, much hotter story.

Politics is the only reason why people are talking about this game. If it did come out, how many of you would actually buy it? I bet not many

I was genuinely considering the game, actually. Not sure if i wishlisted it or not (probably not, 'cause i'm getting sick of TBA in my damn wishlist when trying to see what is on sale). I'm not normally a horror fan, but my girlfriend is. And, of course, this was before i was aware of the controversy.

I wanted to buy it when it came out on Steam and foolishly waited for my paycheck. By the time it arrived the game was gone.
So this would have been an insta buy for me.

I would buy copies for friends. I managed to grab it on Steam and hosted a horror game night with some friends. They loved it but missed the window. I had wanted to gift it to them.
