fronzelneekburm: Bruh, NOTHING can beat Devotion! That one managed to get delisted even before release. In a sense, it had a negative lifespan.

DoomSooth: They were going to sell Hatred, too, but they received many complaints from gamers about that. If you want it DRM-free, you have to go to another store.
I don't believe GOG ever said they would sell Hatred, unless you can find a source.

One has to wonder why. Just looked at the preview footage on Steam and it looks like a very violent nihilistic game, but so do Succubus and Agony.

I guess GOG must have relaxed their rules in the intervening years (this was around 7 years ago judging from the date of the post).

Probably this. Back in 2015 they were still riding high from Witcher 3 and (I think) Galaxy hype (and before things like 2nd class citizen list was piling up), and it was pre-EGS and before Steam started giving discounts for bestselling devs / pubs. Now we have stuff like Gore Screaming Show (I would not have wanted to be a tester for that game).

Again though, GOG never confirmed they would sell Hatred (which is what DoomSooth was claiming), unlike Devotion. That reads to me like Destructive and people assumed GOG would accept it. I'd still like to see Hatred here but I don't view it in the same line as Devotion - which was officially confirmed for GOG release - and "many gamers" b.s. line fed to us.

Also, afaik (I know I could easily ask on the Discord :P) Zoom-Platform's version still hasn't gotten mods running with it, and I assume a GOG release would have the same issue. (This is not me saying GOG would selling Z-P's exact version.)

They definitely did. Weebshit was de facto banned on gog in those days, as were visual novels and porn. Back then, pixelart roguelike puzzle platformers were their bread and butter when it came to indie releases.

They'd also reject stuff on far more dubious grounds, such as the fairly rigid 5.99/9.99 price point. Tfishell still bemoans the lack of Humongous Games to this day and that was the reason they got rejected initially: The freakin' price points.

I think widely expected was simply a reference to it a) being a fairly hyped up game and b) gog carrying other AO titles (Larry 8, Fahrenheit), which IIRC Steam didn't do at the time. Everyone just kinda assumed that gog accepting it would be a given - especially the (Polish) devs.
