Grargar: If they said that the issue is fixed for real, then what will happen when someone points out that the problem persists in the Linux version?

O______o?

Eh?
Also, American Conquest + Fight Back has a DRM too. It needs a multiplayer key :/
GOG has accepted MP keys since forever. That is something that is well known. The problems arise with SP.

I wouldn't call a MP Key as DRM, it's actually a good thing they exist as they prevent piracy and I'm perfectly fine with that. Requiring for Singleplayer though is a different story. there's really no point to that.
An update on my refund request: COMPLETED / CASE CLOSED

To summarize, they couldn't refund my credit card directly as my purchase was over a year old (their "system" doesn't allow it). On July 2nd or 3rd'ish, they sent me an email with the following:

Hello
Of course requested refund in this situation is accepted. However unfortunately there are some problems with it. Because your order was made 2 years ago we cannot process refund as a standard procedure since our system allows it only for the orders not older then a year. In this situation I can propose you one of the following options:
- We will refund your payment with a store credit you could use to purchase games in our store (amount 1.99 USD)
- I will exchange your game for a different title available in our store at the initial price of your game (9.99 USD)
- And of course we can return your payment as a standard money transfer to your bank account, however it might took up to 2 weeks.
Please let me know which of the proposals you'd prefer most.
After the USA July 4th Holiday passed, there was about that it might now be FIXED. But to date, a [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/defcons_drm_is_still_active_support_doesnt_give_a_crap/post353]"blue" hasn't yet replied in the affirmative. , [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/defcons_drm_is_still_active_support_doesnt_give_a_crap/post389]Introversion says that the DRM will be staying (for whatever reason).

So I thought about it and emailed GOG, asking for the "exchange" option - choosing the current on-sale for $9.98 Tropico 4 + DLC's as my exchange game.

This morning I received a gift code for that - and I just redeemed it successfully (and Tropico 4 + DLC's is now in my library.

I would have patiently waited longer for the FIXED version, but 1) It didn't look like that was forthcoming, and 2) As I noted before, I've had enough SOON™. Add those together and not waiting seemed the best choice.

Hopefully, Introversion will indeed FIX this and then in the future I may again choose to purchase the game.

I'd like to thank GOG for stepping up and making this situation right by me :)

Way to miss the entire point of this thread. Multiplayer keys are nothing new on GOG as long as they're only required for multiplayer.

Oh okay, sorry, it was the first game I saw with a mp key on GOG ^^

Unfortunately they've still not replied to my support ticket and I sent it on the 26th of June...

I don't object to you taking issue with it if you're unhappy with multiplayer keys, but this thread is about DEFCON not even working in single player because of active DRM so it's definitely a different issue.

The best defense for a game requiring a MP key is that it works as an unique identifier which allows the private servers to ban cheaters. As long as the game doesn't phone home to a centralized server and need it's validation, a MP key is just copy protection, not DRM.

In my book, there's the following equation:

COPY PROTECTION == DRM

They're one and the same, to me..

Well rats.

With their oft-noted apparent "if you even breath another word about this ticket we'll move it to the bottom of the queue" system, I'd be hesitant to ask about it; and TBH was hoping this would not happen to me although I thought it was possible.

Hope they get you covered soon (not SOON™)..

Martek: *snip*
Wow, exchanging DEFCON (which you obviously bought for $1.99) for Tropico 4 was extremely generous by GOG. Think you made a pretty good deal. :)

Exactly, yeah. I've not followed up on it because apparently it bumps you down the queue. I'm beginning to wonder if someone read it and disregarded it though.
Still, no further development.
I am wondering if there is still some movement going on behind the scenes, or people are hoping this situation will die quietly.

No Linux version update on the change log, no GOG confirmation that the issue is now fixed... I guess I'll have to ask for my refund and admit defeat.
