How do I transfer characters from Pool of Radiance to Curse of the Azure Bonds? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I don't have the game, but try this:
Load your final save in Radiance.
Remove every character from party (go to a Training Hall if you aren't in one; also, it's good practice to preferentially save in Training Halls).
Exit the game.
Look in the game directory for *.CHA files with names derived from your characters' names.
Copy them to the saves directory in Curse.
Run Curse and add the characters to the party.
There's a forum for the series here.

I'm have a problem that is... and isn't... there.
I bought Curse of the Azure Bonds here on GOG. It doesn't seem to have a forum of it's own. But I'm playing it and having fun.
Only thing is, I've used the program and the code wheel and it fails every time.
No matter what I do... and no matter if I get two, three, five friends to substitute for me... the reply to the copy protect is always always incorrect.
It doesn't seem to be impacting game play any. Was the Copy Protect removed? Are we all doing something wrong?
