That is my gloss anyway.

Has anyone heard of CrossCode?

The free demo is playable in the browser. Worth a look.
Looks neat, I'll have to keep an eye on this one!
By "tradition of Chrono trigger", do you mean silent protagonist? Because I'm not a fan of those.

Yep, silent protagonist. She is "mute" they insist. I was actually thinking more of the artwork/some of the gameplay though.
I actually finished the demo yesterday and forgot to do my usual little writeup in the "games finished in 2015" thread.

Fun game, I think it has a really nice feel to it. I'm not in love with the "this takes place in a virtual MMORPG" Matrix-y story, but the rest of the writing is pretty good, I liked all of the characters and the dialogue. The combat is simple but satisfying and the character movement is especially fluid for the style. The few puzzles introduced were kinda clever and made good use of the game's ball throwing gimmick, and the platforming (well, more like obstacle jumping really) is nice and easy (in a good way).

I don't see it reaching its goal even if a big name Youtuber picked up on it, but I do hope they give it another shot and continue to try and get it off the ground. It seems to be one of those games that is quietly good.

It's just that I tried to play Chrono trigger on an emulator last year, after a lot of recomending from a friend. I had to put it down after half an hour, I couldn't handle the silent protagonist thing. I've never liked it, but I've played other games with one before; so it may be down to me being on a bad mood at the time or something like that.

But anyway, my postioni right now is clear: if I ever feel like playing something in the tradition of Chrono trigger, I'll just play Chrono trigger. I bet I'll love it.

I'll add quickly that partway through the demo the protagonist of CrossCode is given slight speech abilities and it's hinted that she will gain more (within limits). As far as I understand she'll never be spitting out entire sentences and paragraphs, but she'll be able to communicate a bit.
Hey, just a little update, they are only 10,000 euros away from their goal now! That is quite a jump from a few days ago and with 36 hours left in the campaign it looks like they might actually make it!
Crono isn't silent! (Not... completely.)

(Serge is actually described as a Silent Protagonist on the menu screen, though.)
Looks interesting....

Downloading demo now ^_^
"The essence of CrossCode is throwing balls at everything"

This made me laugh.

I never played Chrono Trigger, but I did play some of Chrono Cross and remember that I quite liked it. I'll have to keep an eye on this one. Thanks for the heads up!

Chrono never talks?
Huh, I've played that game through at least twice and I can't say I ever noticed...

You should definitely give it another try though, Chrono Trigger is a proper classic, one of the best JRPGs out there.
CrossCode has reached (and surpassed) its goal. I didn't expect it to get funded, but I'm pretty happy about this.
Just went through the demo. I like the speed of the game, although I don't fully grok the "futuristic MMO" angle of the story. It doesn't actually play very much like Chronotrigger, since this is a straight-on action game, but I guess it looks sort of like it graphically. I hope the full game turns out well.

I played a bit of the demo and this is exactly what I was thinking. More like Secret of Mana than Chrono Trigger.
