isn't the series a licensing nightmare anyway

heck even if you bought it on the psn store you can't play it on a vita because they didn't bother to license it for play on that system, so pretending there's a chance for a pc version is silly

im not sure anymore who owns it these days

if you want to play it you will have to do so on original hardware because a pc version is nigh on impossible

It's essentially the same problem as with Amiga emulation, because it requires a ROM of the original Playstation BIOS, which is still copyrighted by Sony.
Actually, many PS1 emulators use a cloned or simulated BIOS. Here are a few I'm aware of:

Virtual Game Station
Bleem
no$psx
Arbex ( a Xebra variant)
PCSX ( the project's free bios implementation wasn't very compatible last I checked )

To be fair I think it is much cheaper to just buy a PS3 and then get Crash Bandicoot 1+ 2 from PSN - that's what I did.

jepsen1977: To be fair I think it is much cheaper to just buy a PS3 and then get Crash Bandicoot 1+ 2 from PSN - that's what I did.
are they even on psn ?
i cant recall seeing them

but buying the original version is not an option for games these days. They HAVE to come to GOG or nothing! Or that is the impressions I keep getting these days.

I think crash is one of the easiest psx games to get. I keep seeing it cheap in every second hand store. Cheap on the PSN also.

Why is it hard? I played it not long ago for the first time in 10 years and picked it back up like I had played it every day for a month. Simple, basic controls.

It's hard because you like asshole checkpoints and saves it is a good game although I would like to use Res raid enough ^^
