TheTomaszf: Mac OS Solution:
Uninstall GOG Galaxy with all data (with CleanMyMac for example)
Go to the /Users/Shared
Find /Users/Shared/GOG.com and delete GOG.com folder
and reinstall GoG Galaxy
This worked for me, except I didn't use CleanMyMac - I just put GOG Galaxy (the one in Applications) into Trash, and then i did the same for /Users/Shared/GOG.com; after that I installed GOG Galaxy, and all was well.

Thank you!
Sorry to necro the thread, but I'm having the exact same issue as described above. Deleting and reinstalling doesn't help for me - any other suggestions please? I'm on Mac OS 10.13.6.
Thanks.
Same error for me... did uninstall with Clean My Mac and reinstall, nothing works !
It just happens since the last 1.2.54.27 update.
@gog : any answer ?

For anyone interested, the above steps work (on macOS Mojave 10.14.4).
I did not have CryptoPrevent installed, I had all the right permissions and exceptions set up in both my firewall of choice and the built-in Windows firewall, I had not installed anything after installing GOG, and the first few days GOG worked fine until the first GOG notification triggerred this issue and simply would not go away...

When it happens, it looks like you can ignore it - as long as you don't close the error notification box, GOG will run seemingly fine but it's still a nuissance even if that's the case...

I tried manually starting/restarting the GOG services, I manually reapplied all the firewall permissions and exceptions, I uninstalled and then reinstalled GOG - to no avail...

The solution? Turns out the GalaxyCommunication service fails if connection attempt is made through my VPN. I had configured exceptions in my VPN for all GOG executables but for some reason the exceptions are sometimes not applied so GOG went through the VPN. By simply disconnecting and reconnecting my VPN, the GOG exceptions were reloaded and GOG now works just fine!

What fixed problem for me was logging out other logged in users in the system. When I am on the only logged in account Galaxy works but when there is other account logged in it crashes.

jtsn: For me Galaxy crashes when I log into the machine using Remote Desktop (RDP) to download games. It's clearly a bug in GOG Galaxy.

It works when I use Steam In-Home Streaming to stream the Galaxy Client to another machine. But I don't think it was meant to be that way.
September 2019, this same issue still persists. RDP, which I would love to use, is simply no-go. And no, unfortunately I have no hacks to offer to make it work - consider a "bump up" that this issue remains unaddressed.

For me (MacOS Catalina), being the only logged user solved the problem. All the other workaround in the thread didn't help.

Thanks @nrq!

Thanks! It worked for me too, only 1 user logged and it worked. Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6

I had been having the same issue since updating GOG Galaxy a few days ago.
But logging out other users on my Mac (running High Sierra) seems to have fixed the problem!

This error will appear when attempting to start GOG Galaxy on Windows via RDP.

This solution solved my issue with MacOS.
I'm having this issue on Windows too. I recently changed the SSD and transferred all my files to the new one with a system image restore. However, since that upgrade, this message pops up after a few seconds of usage.

On top of that:
- the app takes 30s to open (probably a timeout issue);
- at the end of the installation process, a pop up states "Essential components needed to start GOG Galaxy are missing. Please reinstall the application."

I've been trying to fix the issue for several hours now. I deployed everything this and similar threads suggested, but to no avail.

I've uploaded in a Google Drive folder the logs of a typical startup.

Cheers.
Just to add to this in case someone in the future runs into the same problem: (on Windows 10 by the way)

I had a VPN installed and added GOG Galaxy to the whitelist so it wouldn't be affected by the VPN if it is enabled. Trying to open the launcher would then result in the error message despite the VPN not even running.
When I removed GOG Galaxy from the whitelist, it worked as expected again.

So just as a headsup for someone that might have a similar issue and none of the other methods solved your problem, it might be worth it to check out your VPN.
