Hot spot indicator? What sorcery is this?!

Simon the Sorcerer & Simon the Sorcerer 2: 25th Anniversary Edition are coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
He can be arrogant. He can be obnoxious. He can drive your favorite fairytale characters nuts. If that wasn't enough, he's now also enhanced for his 25th Anniversary! Sporting a modernized control scheme, upscaled visuals, new animations and the option to mix and match all the cool new features with those of the original versions, Simon is back and ready to point & click his way into infamy once more.

The Anniversary editions will be released on April 3rd. The original versions will be removed from sale and added to these as a bonus goodie.
Each Anniversary Edition will cost 8.99 USD.
Owners of the original games will get a 50% discount on them.
Getting both Anniversary editions will grant you a 10% bundle discount.

Zjeraar: Hey hey, relax man, I didn't mean to make this personal. Full Throttle is my absolute favorite adventure game as well, which is why I was so afraid of this happening after having seen what already happened with Grim Fandango.

You might not have noticed them, but that doesn't meant that they're not there, because they really are, and independent of configuration. The Double Fine guys even acknowledged most of these bugs (after I've reported them) and decided not to spend some extra time on fixing them, but close them instead. This is not an opinion.

An example of a design change in comparison to the classic is the shot in which Ben celebrates smacking down the first Rottwheeler by doing a wheelie. The direction of the clouds in the classic added to the feeling of speed, whereas this is gone in the remaster. Same goes for the whole intro scene by the way.

Edit: And I just found out from the link that apparently even some dialogue between Maureen and Ben is missing from the remaster...
I thought you were talking about the style of the redone art, not small technicalities that are missing. Apologies then. It is a shame that they wouldn't fix bugs that were reported, that's just slop then. However, overall, the way the new art and animations were done was with a lot of research and respect to the originals, even if there are (in my opinion, maybe you see it differently) miniscule differences (appearing more-so as oversights or glitches).

The Full Throttle remaster was the most costly, in terms of time and money, remaster that Doublefine has done to date, and after watching and listening to interviews with the devs both during development and after release, these are why I say that it is objectively false to say that they didn't respect the originals in the work. It wasn't a slapdash process. However, with the points you raised, it is a shame that they didn't continue that effort post-release to make it perfect.

After reading your posts, it's clear now that the anniversary edition adds nothing of value to Simom 2 that isn't possible in the original game. I am still undecided about Simon 1 (because of the subtitles issue). But I haven't found anywhere if the aspect ratio is distorted or not if you use the original graphics, or if the subtitles are complete (someone claimed there were lines missing).

Does this mean, combined with the current super-discount of the originals, that buying the original now and then the anniversary edition would be cheaper than buying just the new edition?

To explain in more detail, the subtitles for the English & German version of Simon the Sorcerer 1 are still incomplete, because the actual original data files have not been changed at all.

All the changes by MojoTouch are on the game engine side, which is based off ScummVM.

Thanks for the clarification. At this point I'm tempted to just buy the originals today and forget this mess ever happened.

As much as I liked the remasters but seeing how many things the DF guys were "unable to fix" mekes them seem to be incompetent! I am not talking about "sorry, but we decided not to fix this" - their reply is "We're unable to fix this" (even for subtitle bugs) and I would call this incompetent for a software developer.

Will the multiple languages for STS 1 and 2 classic be available when they convert to goodies in the remastered version? Cheers
I just bought all three Simon games and then I compared Simon 1 with the German retail CD I own. I can confirm that the hotkey indicator is not available in the original (German) version for Simon 1 though it is available on GOG.

It would be nice if they remade Simon 3D. The graphics have aged badly on that one.

From what I've heard you'd really need to completely scrap the original and start from scratch. I don't think I've ever met anyone that liked it.

I for one would love that because it would make a great 3D game, so long as it was well made.

That "3D sequel to a beloved series" era of late 90's/early 2000s really was a dark time. Escape from Monkey Island, Earth Worm Jim 3D, Ultima 9, Worms 3D and more... all vastly inferior to the previous installments even at the time, and they aged way worse too.

late 90s early 2000 was a really dark time for me. I guess it was bad all around. :P

That, along with Might and Magic 9. You could tell that the end was on the horizon in 8, but really? Why the sudden drop and short stop that was 9?

Has anyone played 10?

Back to the root topic - I just bought 1&2 (3D didn't look like it was worth my time) and will be giving them my first play-through in the coming weeks. Agreed with many comments here, though - this remake looks abysmal, especially coupled with the price increase.

It's not the gameplay that is the problem, it's the graphics and controls. If those were fixed it would at least make Simon 3D a decent game.

Anyway I'd take the third game over that awful fouth game with American Simon. The third game needs the most of a facelift because the graphics were dated even back then.

Eh? Worms 3D is terrific and loads of people love that game. Those other games you mentioned not so much.

It's not a remake, just the graphics for tboth games have been updated to higher resolution.

I enjoyed 9 actually. Aside from the bugs, at least. 10, not so much. I hated the classes.
The early 3D days really, really were a dark time.
