Hi there!

I love those kind of games, especially if they have a strong resource or industry focus. Games like Factorio, RimWorld, or even Kenshi are atop my favourites. I have to be in control of every individual member of the town/colony, so nothing major like a whole city management.

Other games I played of this genre:

- Clockwork Empire
- Gnomoria
- Townz
- Dwarf Fortress
- Maia
- Prison Architect
- Banished
- Startopia
- Dungeon Keeper

Games that are not of this genre:

- SimCity
- Caesar
- Children of the Nile
- Settlers
- Anno

I prefer a top down view instead of first person. Find it more easy to plan. So games like Minecraft and InfiniFactory are not my cup of tea.

Was wondering if you guys could name your favourites, maybe I can find a game I haven't played yet :)

I worship all the Settlers games but there is A LOT of combat in those. A lot of all the other stuff you mentioned as well, but there is also war. :D
My favorite is still Settlers 2

Anno series comes in second

Also check out:

Startopia

'City Builder' series - Pharaoh, Masters of Olympus, Caesar, Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom etc.
Very resource and logistic focused, staring ages at the field before you decide 'hay - I should get this storage yard to actively 'empty' lumber rather than simply 'not accept' it - very cool if you like that sort of thing!
Also Settlers series

BANISHED is not on your list?!

Have you tried Banished? It isn't quite a city management sim, but rather a survival game in town management format (that is, the objective is having the town survive as long as possible). You start off with just a few villagers and some resources (and some livestock, depending on the difficulty setting) and have to build from there.

EDIT: DAMN YOU SACHYS! *brings up poop-deflector shield and starts spraying copious amounts of soap water at the ape*

Has 'Children of the Nile' been mentioned? I keep thinking of other ones. The OP stumbled onto a gold mine here, pardon the pun.

SimCity 2000 is available on GoG and probably fits the bill. (SimCity 4 is also available here but I haven't played it, so I can't speak to it.)

The Tropico series would also be worth a look, combining city building with political management (something that SimCity never really required you to account for). 1-3 are available on GoG.
Thanks for all your replies. Totally forgot Banished, which I have played.

As for Settlers, yes, I played a few, absolutely love them. But I'd like something more crafting and micromanagement based.

To those that suggest city simulation games like Caesar or SimCity: please look at my list. I am looking for individual colonist management, nothing as big scale as a whole city.

Just a few buildings, micromanagement, crafting system, and so on.

You could always try Cultures. Its a mix of Settlers and Sims.
Timber and Stone & Stonehearth (aren't finished yet, you're probably already aware of those)

If you want a challenge, try Constructor but don't expect to control your tenants...

Well, if you like survival, then Stranded or Stranded 2 may be your cup of tea. Stranded 3 is in developement right now, maybe it`ll be done this year.

Which one should I play? 1, 2 or Northland?

Played those. Still too early to sink time in them. Prefer Stonehearth :)
Cultures series
Alien Nations and Nations
Beasts and Bumpkins
And, heck, why not...Sims Medieval and Sims: Castaway Stories.
