Wow, no idea Nightshade had a PC release, I have played the NES game.

Admit-tingly this game is a bit hard to narrow an initial search on as there are multiple games released named Nightshade.

Likely going to pick them all up anyway, but are any of those the censored versions for the western market?

no from what I can tell it IS the mega drive version.

It's just an emulator with a ROM. That being said, I'm 100% certain that the original creators of this game (Technopop) gave both this game and it's unreleased (and incomplete sequel) to the public domain once upon a time.
