The galactic Summer Sale on GOG.COM still shines in the sky with over 3000 game deals up to 95% off. Today we present you with 3 fun titles that you can claim and download for free.

Ascendant is an action-adventure game that puts you in the shoes of a mighty demigod. While journeying through on the planet controlled by his rivals, our hero must use every blessing and spell at his disposal to survive. This colorful indie game poses quite a challenge to the player. The permanent death system and randomly generated levels will throw you into a new world each time you begin a fresh game.

Delores: A Thimbleweed Park Mini-Adventure is an indie adventure game that will take you on a retro-style journey. As Delores Edmund, a game developer and a part-time photographer, you must journey into the Thimbleweed Park to uncover some mind-blowing mysteries. The game serves as a tie-in to the award-winning Thimbleweed Park from the creators of the famous Monkey Island series - Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick.

War Wind is a classic RTS set on a distant planet of Yavain. Take command of one of the four unique armies and try to take control of the alien world. The game bears much resemblance to another hit from 1996 - Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, yet it brought many innovations to the table. Level advancement, spell-casting system, biomechanically enhanced monsters – those are only a few features that will help make it through 28 ready-to-play scenarios.

Thanks for the Delores and other free games :)
Thank you so much GOG.COM for all these wonderful free games! You're the best!!!

Carradice: Warwind 2 is in GOG as well. Another great game!
Thanks! The info makes me want to try WW1 before Summer Sale ends. Do you know perhaps how WW2 compares to the first one?
Thanks for the games, much appreciated :)
Thankyou Gog.
I appreciate the initiative even though there's nothing really appealing for me - I already owned Ascendant, and didn't like it btw. I prefer having Delores on GOG but of course that's a free game per se. And I don't know when I'm going to play War Wind if ever. I'm happy for anybody else though. More of this!

BeatriceElysia: 1) last sale we had Mable and the Wood free -> very underwhelming game
2) this sale we have free demos
3) is gog struggling?
I wanted to like Mable & the Wood so much, maybe my expectations were set too high and I should go back to it again one day. But those caves were really boring.
GOG is maybe struggling, I think that after so many years trying to be an alternative to Steam with principles a new competitor arrives just throwing money around and is already in a more important position, devaluing games with an incledible amount of weekly freebies. It could be a hard blow. Also on GOG there's no microtransations, while on EGS they can give away expensive games as a free entry ticket and still cash in on the microtransactions. I wish I could support GOG more than I do...

Breja: Ron Gilbert, when releasing Thimbleweed Park, was so much of an asshole to all the devs
That man is a big inflated balloon full of ego, and credits himself too much for what is always been teamwork.

The story continues. A worthy sequel with interesting new stuff.

The original War Wind boasted four different factions. All very original and with very different gameplay. All with their own story. The aristocratic overlords must reassert their dominion over the others. The brutal Obblinox rebel and search for their own power. The worker chaste, the Eaggra, seek their freedom. The mystical Shama'Li help the Eaggra to make a free Yavaun.

In WW2, humans stranded in the planet have split in two factions. A militaristic one (the marines) and a scientific one. The Tha'Roon have reasserted their dominion over the Obblinox, while the Eaggra and Shma'Li have joined forces within the "Servants Under NagaRom" (S.U.N.) faction.

It is very worthy playing WW1 and playing out the campaigns of the four different factions. Then going to WW2 and enjoying the two human factions, plus the combine of the original ones.

War Wind featured stealth. Also units have can carry special objects. Plus, IIRC there is an evolution of the units. They can become. In WW2 it is very fun to create different kinds of specialized units as well, like airborne infantry and the like. The game allows you to create the kind of units that you like more for your style of play, and encourages you to experiment.

The factions have an unique charm. Both are very worthy games. If you like WW, do not hesitate and grap WW2 for later. Most likely, you will want more.
I had war wind series in my wishlist and I was happy to get it in my library as freeby. Nice addition. Sadly the game has some technical issues. It suffers from some kid of micropauses each few seconds, laggy gameplay, sttuter, probably because of the ddraw wrapper needed to run it in windows 10. The save mode in this game needs to open the windows explorer to save and load. So a tweaked specific wrapper is needed to have the game stable for that.

The real problem is that the game game for me crashes in ten minutes or so when one of those micropauses are active. Wthout the vanilla GOG wrapper the game does not run at all and changing it with a different one it runs worse.

So it is sad because I had this game wishlisted and I was very interested in it. A different approach in a classic rts of the starcraft era.

Anyway, thanks GOG for the three new free additions.

Greetings

EDIT: Making some experiments I discovered that running the game under DXWnd makes the game smoother and apparently less laggy. Now it is time to discover if it makes it more stable and/or without crashes. Greetings.

gogtrial34987: Thank you, gog, for the free games!
Since Thimbleweed Park is available for Linux, any chance that Delores will get a Linux version as well, still? Would be greatly appreciated!

gogtrial34987: The sale is not over yet.
Delores runs on a new engine that hasn't yet got a Linux build (despite looking like it, it's not the same engine as Thimbleweed Park). Looks like it's coming soon though.

No problem at all on Windows 7 64.

Maybe it is a problem with Windows 10 only or with shared memory cards laptops. The performance is a bit sluggish and crashy. It feels too demanding.

But now I can confirm. for those who have problems that renaming the wrapper and using dxwnd the game does not crash and the performance is much smooth and stable. I have noticed that graphically is less crispy. But well, you can't get all what you want. :)

BananaJane: I just bought war wind a year ago, goddammit!!!
Hah, I bought it 3 years ago! Oh, wait a minute... Well I can understand the feeling, on the other hand I'm glad that it's free now, maybe people will buy more copies of War Wind 2 and other games from legendary, but almost unknown at the same time, DreamForge developer.

Indeed. But I think Dreamforge is one of those studios which are more remembered by some of its games than by its name at difference of Blizzard just to stress a single iconic example .

Any classic RPG fan could recognize titles like Ravenloft, or Menzoberranzan or Anvil of Dawn. But probably does not remember the name of the creators.

Or any fan of good point and click Graphic Adventures could consider Santarium as a Legendary Title, but probably does not remember the studio behind.

Fans of those games would certainly remember the developer. Sanitarium is definitely a legendary game for me and if not for a friend I would never touch it, it's the best ever point and click adventure game I've played in my life, English and Russian localisation has really great voice actors, maybe that game wasn't advertised properly.
The problem is no one played their games, except for some hard core D&D fans back in nineties. The studio is dead and left unknown yet their games were great and some even technologically advanced. Can't say that War Wind was technologically advanced but it sure is a special game.

EDIT: Good evening.
