So I wanted to cheat in some game by editing savegame file, but it had checksum.

Cheat Engine seems popular for all this stuff and seems to have cheat tables for the game I need, but apparently some antiviruses find it unsafe.

Is it false positive? It calms me down that Kaspersky and Avast find it safe, still it lives me unsure.

Of course they find it unsafe, its entire use is to modify memory that has been allocated to other applications.

There's nothing to worry about though.

Antivirus programs often react to game trainers as they manipulate memory, which is probably what viruses do too. I usually check comments by other users – if they're overwhelmingly positive, then there's nothing to worry about.

I've used it for years. Last I checked I haven't grown any new arms.
No trouble on my end for the last couple of years. The only time Cheat Engine gives me a scare is on April Fool's.
I have actually used Cheat Engine.

The reason anti-virus software might consider it unsafe is that it does the sort of things that malware might do. In particular, I believe it attaches to the program as a debugger, allowing it (for example) to view and modify the memory of the attached process. Viruses can do some nefarius things this way, but Cheat Engine needs to do this to function as intended. In this sense, it is like any other debugger, just that this one is designed with cheating rather than debugging in mind.

Note, however, that using it with multiplayer games may cause you to be banned from the servers.

I was going to say almost the same thing. I've also used it from time to time since forever ago. My petri dish fluid is still a clear solution. No bacterial residue evident in the solution. Then again, I'm starting to develop an unhealthy interest in Japanese ska music and I have a bad rash on my left foot. Perhaps these issues are related after all.
Thank you for all the replies. I will use it with calm heart now :)
