Well luckily GOG got it sorted out before too many got very disappointed-ed-ed
(As to the topic, on a more sirius note: I myself finished backing up the rest of my games weeks ago, so luckily I wasn't affected)

It might have been in their load balancers' GSLB settings or their IP packets' MTU settings were wrong, but it could be something completely different as well.
