GOG should speak with Standing Stone games to create an offline version of Lord of the Rings, uh, Online. But offline.

What? It's not that ridiculous. Blizzard is releasing games here, everything is feasible now. EVERYTHING.

It's a great game, the only problem, as with every MMO, is that it's designed to REALLY waste time. I have a lifetime account, but haven't played it in a few years, because everything is a grind. An offline version would be great.

With LAN multiplayer.

Yeah.

lol what? Why would you play an MMO but with no multiplayer? Isn't the point of an MMO to have fun with lots of other people?
No thanks. Thanks, but no thanks.

I enjoyed it too, but yeah, like most MMOs it becomes a grindfest.

turning it into an offline game would probably be pretty costly, as everything in it has been tied in one way or another to a server and always online interaction. I'm not saying it can't be done and I've mused similar ideas about MMO's, but in the end, there would be a lot of content in it that would be unplayable in single player because it was designed to be for multiple players in mind, so the design changes would be deeper than just cutting the ties to a server.
whats the point of an MMO without the...umm... MMO?

Getting Diablo was cool, but now everyone thinks everything is possible, even if it defies logic :P
This would be very difficult as a lot of content in online games are designed to be done with multiple people. Some dungeons and even raids would be impossible with a single character.
The books are offline.
Just wait... it will happen! Right after GOG starts selling World of Warcraft Offline.

So now we have Diablo, what are the chances of GOG getting Half Life 3?

Explore the world without having to deal with other people. Sounds good to me.

Still, I'd rather we get the LEGO LOTR game, not to mention Return of the King.
Which is more likely, that or EA's LOTR games? (Or LORT games - Lords Of the RoundTable)
I used to play that game. As soon as the game became free-to-play and a store was added to the game, the Gods became displeased, and Middle-earth began its slow plummet into the ocean.
