A city-building game from Strategy Labs that will take you to the Land of the Pharaohs is coming soon on GOG.COM. While waiting for Builders for Egypt, you can already play the title’s free prologue, a perfect stage to test skills as the ancient city's administrator.

By the alien Gods! Been waiting for this game for over 1000 years. Can't wait to try it when I get home.

When the release day? I can't wait another 1000 years. :/

It's always good to have more "demos" on GOG. But is there any information available what this demo actually includes or what are its limits? The info on the game page just seems to be a copy of the description of the full version of the game.
Info on zee Prologue:

FAQ:

How long will Prologue be available?
- Prologue has no time limit, it will be available forever.

How long will it take to complete the mission?
- Gameplay time depends on your experience in this type of games, you can assume that it will take on average ~one hour.

Is there a time limit in the mission? Can I continue playing after completing the mission?
- When the game announces victory, you will be asked if you want to continue playing, you can do so and play forever.

Will the Prologue be further developed?
- Yes, Prologue will be further developed in parallel with the development of Builders of Egypt

Will there be any future missions or other content in Prologue?
- I plan to add more content to Prologue in the future as an encouragement to support the main game.

When will Builders of Egypt be released?
- The release date is not fixed yet. It all depends on your feedback about Prologue. This game is created together with the players (I'm a player too), everyone has an influence on its final look.

I want to share my feedback, how best to do it?
- You can write your feedback on the Prologue forum on Steam, as well as contact me by email if you want to include some files.

"What is Prologue? It is a free version of Builders of Egypt containing the first mission from the main campaign, in which you will have to establish the future capital of Ancient Egypt." [Source: The GOG auxiliary information and up-to-date installer website, sometimes also known as Steam].
Cool, though I still wish we could get more highly-desired freeware titles here.
There are only a few buildings unlocked in the demo tutorial mission, so unless they unlock more at the end there isn't much point in playing more. I didn't make it to the end since growing enough food seems to be a challenge and I decided I didn't like it before I was regularly growing enough food. How much more do I need? No idea, there does not seem to be anything to tell you how much you are growing and consuming.

In a word I would call it "muddled". Unless the demo is quite out of date this looks like a premature release. You start with a long, all caps intro that is not all that clear (just historical background, can be skipped). Once in the game, the graphics are a bit nicer than Children of the Nile but the game itself does not seem nearly as good. There are some issues like not resetting the scroll position when you go to the next tutorial page and buildings that don't have right click menus staying highlighted if you right click them. There is what looks like a list of buildings that doesn't seem to include all buildings. There isn't a simple income vs. expenditures comparison. The currency is bread (and beer later in the game), but no one seems to eat that bread. There isn't the flooding and seasonal changes of Children of the Nile.

Agreed, this feels like a very early access. Though I don't believe it's "that much" out of date, as releasing such an outdated demo and counting on feedback to improve the actual build would really miss the point.

There is some flooding, but it's barely noticeable - not where they tell you to place the wharf, but a bit further where you could place some farms - they get submerged during the flooding season.

The only thing that I've found consumes bread are wages - and I haven't yet found any downside to reducing them to the absolute minimum (granted I have not tried to get them to 0 as well). It's also curious you can have 5k bread stored, but your houses get downgraded because you don't have enough food for a populaiton of 100.

Also, the warehouse can bug quite easily, I had 4k out of 4.8k units free, but the carriers did not seem fit to drop that last shipment of bricks in there. There was only one active carrier on map, and it was waiting by the warehouse, because reasons. Due to that quickly farms, craftsmen and claypits stopped working because nothing ever came to take their products. Adding second warehouse did not help things either.

Additionally, there are some disappearing textures - on claypit, for example, only on very close zoom the clay tiles actually show. On zoom-out, they disappear, and what you see is just grass.

And, there is that white-out transition between region map and world view. It burns your eyes, as if it's trying to say "don't you dare play anymore"

There are a couple available languages, including french, but there are some missing or wrong translations. But nice for it to exist so early.

One important remark though: they need to CHANGE that awful FONT, it really isn't readable.

Also, the texts in the tutorial are WAY TOO LONG.

Nice for the demo, although not my type of game it can be interesting for the fans. :)
I haven't played a city builder in very very long time. But I love egyptian culture and looks as this game is very faithful and very well made.
I hope that learning curve isn't very hard.
Nice. It's a rare thing to see devs release a demo these days, even if it is an early version with some gameplay issues. I have this game on my wishlist so I'll definitely try it out at some point.

How could I forget to consult this essential GOG resource. Thank you for reminding me! :)

Thanks! That sounds more like I should take this demo only to test if the game might run on Wine.
