I really like the Borderlands series. Last thing I need is yet another game store drm client, and I can wait out the eventual release on steam. If it never shows up, I am ok with that too.
Most likely, I will hard pass; it will probably be another "videogame-as-service" model that I have skipped up to now.
Huh?

Borderlands, looter shooter with way too many guns with minor differences.
Borderlands 2 - more of the same
Borderlands Prequel - more of the same
Borderlands 3 - probably more of the same

Braggadar: I hate <Insert platform>, but it's exclusively offering <insert game title>, which I want. BOOOO! EXCLUSIVES ARE BAD!

Seriously though, in some deep dark hole there is the same argument getting thrown around about GOG getting Diablo exclusively.
Well. The difference is that GOG works hard to find the rights of old games, make them work and all related stuff, hence it is only fair if they can profit from their own work for a bit before the same build is thrown elsewhere, as is the case of many old games on Steam as soon as the timed exclusivity expired.
Without GOG, many old games would be sold in an unusable state or not sold at all.

Epic just use Fortnite money to buy third party games like there is no tomorrow and lock them behind their... questionable service. Not even Valve ever went that low, and believe me if I say they have kept on digging since 2004.

Borderlands 2 - more of the same with a decline in quality
Borderlands Prequel - more of the same with an even higher decline in quality
Borderlands 3 - probably more of the same and probably a pile of hot garbage
Fixed that for ya

moobot83: if fortnite was not popular i bet you they wouldnt have made a store
You do realise that Valve would not have made a store if it had not been for Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike, right? The main difference between Epic and Valve is that, as far as I am aware, Valve never actively pursued exclusivity on third-party titles. Admittedly that's a pretty big difference, though, and one that makes me sympathise with Valve.

Phasmid: It's pretty much 100% that BL3 will be exclusive to Epic Store. Same logic as Halflife 2 being exclusive to Steam or an EA game being exclusive to Origin.
avatar
Nicole28: Now hold on up. Phasmid, you have a fundamental misunderstand of the situation. Half-life and EA created titles are first-party games respectively made by the companies (Valve and EA) themselves. While it's sucky, I guess they do have a right to make it exclusive to their own digital stores. Borderlands is not created by Epic games. It is made by Gearbox and published under 2k games. Epic is trying to force other people's titles to be exclusive to their own store. This is what people dislike. Epic messing with the eco-system and taking away consumer choices from the gaming public.
Perhaps what he meant was that Unreal engine based games are "logically" belong to EpicStore in a same way Half-Life and Battlefield to Steam and Origin. I agree it's not the same concept, but the fee discount for placing Unreal game is pretty good.
But the whole situation with new to-be-major exclusive PC store is not healthy for game industry. I will wait till Steam finally drop their fees to counter this EpicStore nonsense.

It's sure as hell not the lower price cut that is getting Epic all these exclusives - then it would be wiser for developers to simply sell their games on both platforms. What must be happening right now is that Epic is handing out big bags of money to developers.

Yet it's sure as hell exactly the lowered fees plus the big money of bags for a year exclusivity. Fortunately Epic will not pay for such deals indefinitely and we'll get the picture with games available on all platforms but for some titles with lower prices on Epic. That's why I think that Valve is losing the market right now by doing nothing.

You're certainly more optimistic than I am. What gives you the idea they'll be passing on that gain to the consumer?

Indeed. The ones benefiting from this would be the consumers and Epic but not the game developers / publishers. It makes no economic sense.
Is it time to bash Randy Pitchford again?!?!?!?

Common sense most probably.

No way, he created the very best Opposing Force, Half-Life expansion pack. For this game only he'll go to heavens in the afterlife.
