So Blizzard is going to mine date only if people install specific app for their smartphones? That's it? We all can safely use Battle.net client, nothing changes, right?
Why do we need this app exactly? And how it relates to Blizzcon?

This whole thing has been debunked:

What do you mean by timed missions?

now that this has been debunked - want to amend the OP?

Probably the missions with time limit.

Bobek90: I don´t care about Blizzard since Blizzard North´s dead. Jeez, I still remember, there was a time when I idealized Blizzard, Diablo 2 plus DLC was pure magic, and still is, after all this years is still in top 3 of my personal best game experience.

rtcvb32: Ditto.

Aahhh the days when they had single player and offline content.

But when they went with everything is multiplayer and always-online, well... i stopped doing anything with them.
I remember when others like Westwood produced quality stuff, before that other company bought em out and basically shleved the brandname.

Timed missions CAN be fun and challenging if done right/given enough time....take some of the older westwood C&C titles, for example.

By one/a few redditors/reddit users who also post that the app DOES access some info that people wouldn't normally be ok with others having in that same "debunking". I'll take more stock in it when a rebuttal to that debunking going over each of it's points is made.

Except even "debunking" post acknowledges that app DOES access your credit card number, tracks your GPS coordinates and Bluetooth activity and doesn't allow your phone to go sleep mode.

WOW! Excellent "debunking" there mate ;)

Seriously, has everyone just forgot how to be sceptical or use their brains once in awhile, or even read these days? There should be a trigger warning on every text because it's dangerous to read, right?

There are commonly two types of people here; one that actually cares and are voicing their concerns, and there are those that does not care and would blindly follow, and tries to bash those that actually does.

It was best said by a user on reddit:
"Or maybe people are just becoming more aware of how their data is being used... but that would be logical. I guess it's just easier to pretend they are Blizzard haters rather than people who live in a world where personal data and privacy are a big deal."

LootHunter: ...and doesn't allow your phone to go sleep mode.
The last statement is not true: the apps with such access could wake up the phone when required for certain actions, for example messengers turning your phone display when new message or call received, this is not about preventing the phone to go to sleep mode.

When you press a power button on your phone the display is turned off, that's a sleep mode. When you receive a message, notification, news announcement, subscribe update, et cetera the app will put back your phone from sleep mode by turning display on, flashing led, generating sound beeper, et cetera. Что, неужели это большая новость???

FIFY. Now even I can read it :P

Ah. Apparently I confused smartphone "sleep mode" and PC "sleep mode".

Same here, PC sleep mode can be interrupted by software, remotely by other computer/server. It's all about priority/power settings.
