The corresponding store page went up over on the other platform a couple hours ago (listed just as "BlackSite").
Fingers crossed that the concurrent or slightly later GoG release has already been cleared (with its new publisher going by MB Publishing) as well.

The wishlist entries, just in case:
BlackSite
Area 51

The one in question is the FPS from 2007, but who knows - a re-release of the 2005 prequel/remake of the 1995 original might be in the cards too.

Seems like it's the 07 game, I wonder if they will do the 05 game. How did you find out it was only a couple of hours ago by the way?

The message of the person breaking the news was just a few hours old, so I assumed.

I played the 2005 Area-51 game (PC version) some years ago. Felt like poor man's Halo, mainly indoors IIRC. It was ok, but mediocre.

What etched that game to my mind forever is that it is the FPS game that somehow turned me from an "inverted" player to non-inverted.

Meaning that, before Area-51, it always felt more natural to me to play FPS games with inverted Y-axis controls. I would always go enable that option in FPS and third-person shooter games. It just felt more natural to me, not sure if it was because I have played lots of flight simulators in the past. When you want to look up, you tilt your head and upper body backwards, right? So, pull your mouse backwards too, right? Makes sense?

Anyway, when I started playing Area-51, something was off. It just felt weird when I tried to play it. After some time I decided to try to play it non-inverted... and the problem was gone! What was really weird though that after that all the older FPS games that I had always played with inverted controls (starting from Duke3D, to Quake games, Serious Sam games etc. etc.), they also felt now more natural with non-inverted controls.

Damn odd. I don't know what happened to my brains when I played Area-51, maybe I had a minor stroke which killed the part of my brains which likes inverted controls. Anyway it is easier this way, now I don't have to go look for that inverted option in FPS games. Flight sims I still play with inverted Y-axis though.

-snip-
That must have been hell. Was this change in preference for joystick/ thumbstick or mouse? I play inverted for joystick/ thumbstick and non-inverted for mouse. Playing with with the opposite orientation is VERY disorienting for me.

It was with a mouse.
Wasn't this game made free some years back? And I don't mean a temporary giveaway on some store, I mean like fully, legally just take it anyone free? Or am I just completely confused?

Area-51 was, not sure about Blacksite.

Freeware release
In October 2008 the Windows version of the game was made available free of charge.
I recall there was some other Midway PC game which was made free around the same time, name escapes me...

EDIT: Apparently they did at least for "Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War", but I recall it was some other game...

EDIT2: Oh, the third free game was Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, but apparently it was Fileplanet that offered it for free, with in-game ads (and you could buy a version without ads from them as well).

tbh I'd buy Area 51 - 2005 fps - on GOG even if it is still freeware (assuming a reasonable price, and even then I might have to wait for a sale)

Thought the gunplay way quite passable, even good at times, that is except for the infernal sniper scope which was completely knackered to use for some reason.

Biggest thing I remember though was David Duchovny's narration. That alone elevated the game to solid 7/10 territory.

I forgot you could occasionally become an alien, with alien powers, which was kinda cool. Or do remember that wrong?

I guess I mainly felt it was "poor man's Halo" was because it had a somewhat similar futuristic military setting, but without e.g. the outdoor sections and driving and such as Halo did. Indoors all the time in some industry complex, if I recall right.
I had Blacksite on disc back in the day and remember it being buggy as hell. Doubt this random new rights holder patched it, but who knows I guess.

It's a very typical linear FPS from the 360 era.

I agree, I thought it was pretty good too. I liked the music, the voice actors, the setting / monsters...
