There are two things that matter to all of us gamers: the games we play and the friends we play them with. But as more titles come with dedicated launchers and clients, our games and gaming buddies become scattered in between them. With GOG GALAXY 2.0, you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms!

As gamers, we need to juggle between multiple clients to access our games and see what our friends are playing,” says Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG. “We believe gamers deserve a better experience, and this became the driving force to redefine GOG GALAXY client,” Karwowski adds. “GOG GALAXY 2.0 is designed for all gamers and extends well beyond existing GOG.COM users, into both PC and console platforms.

Once you connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with other platforms, it will import all your games into one library. You will see your friends activities and online status across connected platforms. All new library and friends features apply to your GOG.COM games and enhance your experience. And it’s designed to protect your privacy – your data belongs to you and will never be shared with third parties. We see it as an all-in-one solution for the present-day gamer.

Experience GOG GALAXY 2.0 yourself — sign up for the closed beta at www.gogalaxy.com and be among the first to get access to it!

moobot83: cos emulators of actual consoles if thats what u mean is still illegal to use unless you get the rights to use them, so i doubt sega or nintendo will do emulators if thats what u mean by emulators
I find it funny/ironic that such companies often use such emulators to sell their games on new systems while decrying those who made them.

GameRager: 1. Even if a form exists on another store they have to make it "GOG ready"(with their own installer/etc) and test it properly first.

Also yes it should come with all versions the game originally came with, but that's also uip to the devs on what versions they want to give to GOG to sell as well.

Also again you don't get less if you're not in the included release of a game(on a store) to begin with and don;t buy the game.

That's like saying if a store sells regular hot dogs and not veggie dogs and one who only eats veggie dogs buys the regular hot dogs and complains they're getting less than others.
==================================
3. They may get the same cut but GOG has less linux buyers overall than steam and less potential purchases means less money for GOG, even if both stores get the same cut for the same game being sold.
===================================
And I GET where they're coming from...I was just trying to explain why GOG might be making such choices.
===================================
Linux gamers are growing, but they are still very low....and until they become a more viable/lucrative target the market is going to sadly ignore them for the most part(with exceptions such as stores that see the profit form sales in bulk/actual good eggs/etc).
1) That's not the point... What I'm trying to say you is that they firstly advertised linux, but then kinda left it rotten.
The other issue is that aside GOG epsecially for linux, you can't find other stores who sell drm-free stuff, making this even more important.

3) How could they get major sales than steam if the game is not available for them here in the first place? This is no different than a game not available on pc by starter.

1. It still applied to what you were saying....I mean how can I get "on point" if the goalposts keep getting shifted? 0.o

I agree GOG is letting it;s linux users down now and giving them the sh*t end of the stick in some ways, but it's not we can change much(unelss we buy the company that is).

3. Some games are here though with linux versions.

1) What I mean is that GOG should get back to linux, things are in a dire situation are things stand for now. I'm not saying that they should halt the windows counterpart, I'm just saying that they must not forget linux like they are doing.

You can't blame people for fearing that linux will be dropped at some point.

3) The list is really...short, and that not counting not up to date builds, along what I explained to in my first post a few days ago (the debian part).

All in all, GOG will prioritize what they want to prioritize, I just hope that it will not take forever to put linux on par with windows.

1. Agreed, and imo their fears are justified given how little GOG will tell us about future plans.

2. I hope so too or GOG givbes those with concerns a good response, so those who use linux and use GOG know where they stand.

Pretty much. At least we can agree on something. XD

It's bound to happen with most people at some point,....it's basic maths, after all. :)

GameRager: It's bound to happen with most people at some point,....it's basic maths, after all. :)
It's not that common though...XD

GameRager: Not to be too rude, but one could also say the same about booting linux for most people.
It's not rude, just annoying because I feel like you're missing my point and thus end up arguing a tangent.

Even if people just disagree on specifics while agreeing on the basic principles of things is better than nothing & if I cannot agree with someone on some things I try to find some common ground or try to see it their way if I can.

To be clear I don;t do it on purpose usually....most times I have multiple threads/posts open and I am reading so much and so quickly that I sometimes don;t read the proper meaning/context/etc behind some parts of some replies. If I do that with you I apologize.

Ah, that's for sure!
I was just thinking about this bit from the FAQ:

"While we’re hard at work on adding more official integrations, we’ve decided to give you – the community – an opportunity to work on your own open source platform integrations. We’re currently polishing the documentation that will be shared with you to help you build your own platform integrations for GOG GALAXY 2.0."

Would this include platform integration between Galaxy 2.0 and any client that the community might create? So that for example you could chat between a community Galaxy recreation on Linux and the actualy Galaxy?

If so that is a minor step in the right direction.

Edit:

I suppose the two non-MP related Galaxy features the absence of which on Linux are most annoying are autoupdates and cloud saving. Galaxy is a much more convenient way to install games. But the others have a higher convenience factor.

Although the MP features are certainly those that are keeping the most Linux ports on other stores from coming to Linux.

If I already receive beta updates for Galaxy, do I still need to sign up for the closed 2.0 beta?

As long as they don't pull a "skilled technicians"(I believe that's the terms they used) and claim it as their own or forget to acknowledge those who made such mods/addons/etc as they sometimes accidentally did in the past when using various fixes to get classic games to modern systems.

Yes, separate process.
