So far I was kinda hoping this would play something akin to Neverwinter Nights 2 and Dragon Age: Origins.
The game just feels too different from what I expect from the old classic RPGs from Fallout 1 to KOTOR 2.

So you didn't expect it to be like Baldur's Gate, developed by Bioware - but like other games, developed by Interplay/Obsidian? Anyway, what am I arguing here? If you already have a "feel", based on some early youtube video, good for you! I'm probably going to wait for some reviews, maybe even for a lower price. (I'll probably be in the middle of some other game when BG3 is released.) I'm looking forward to it, but a backlog is a backlog.

No No, Bioware's games are also included in what I expect. I mean I just mentioned that I was hoping this would be kinda like a Dragon Age: Origins.

Sounds like you prefer Real-Time with Pause in which case Pathfinder Kingmaker would definitely be a better fit.

But this one feels too much like X-Com 2. I was not prepared for the sheer verticality of the combat and exploration.
ChrisGamer300: Good that they went turn based, it brings it closer to the tabletop experience it's meant to be and as much as i like BG 1-2 and still do, the Bhaalspawn saga is concluded and it's time for something new instead of regurgitate same 20-22 year concept today.
I do agree being associated with the Baldur's Gate 3 name brings certain expectations and it's confusing as to why Larian or more likely WoTC choose that name.
I mean it would have caught just as much amount of attention if it was called "From the Creator's of Divinity Original Sins. Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Mindflayers, a Forgotten Realms Adventure"I do agree being associated with the Baldur's Gate 3 name brings certain expectations and it's confusing as to why Larian or more likely WoTC choose that name.

Combat looks slow. Like, really, really slow. Like, Silent Storm-after-not-enough-sleep slow.
I love me some turn-based, but I'm a little worried that the combination of that and a story the length of BG2 or D:OS2 will make playing a chore. There's a certain value to pacing that I'm not sure Larian is considering.

I really liked Dragon Age: Origins... but when I started playing it, I wished it was more like Baldur's Gate. (IMO) it was their last RPG*... Both DA2 and ME1 should've been more like Mass Effect 2/3 - good action/adventures, not failed RPGs.
I haven't played Inquisition yet though.
*just in case Dtgreene discovers this topic; I disagree with what you have to say. You like your tactical non-wargames, which you call "real RPG" computer/video games. And that's fine.

From what I've read PoE2 suffers a lot from the "trash mobs now take forever" issue. As a game originally designed for real-time, it makes sense it would feel belabored in turn-based.

DadJoke007: One of the few new games in recent years that actually made me wanna play after seeing screenshots. If they can keep the silly humor from Divinity: Original Sin out from the game, it has the potential to be really good.
Not bashing the humor in Divinity, it works there, I just don't think Baldur's Gate would be Baldur's Gate with it.
Elmofongo: Baldur's Gate is a series that gave us Misnc. What's wrong with the humor in Divinity? Not bashing the humor in Divinity, it works there, I just don't think Baldur's Gate would be Baldur's Gate with it.

I believe this game will be very divisive. There's a lot of backlash happening right now on Steam.

DadJoke007: Never said it was, both series are great and have their own distinct humor that wouldnt work in either setting.
Agree to disagree. Comparing the humor of BG1&2 vs Divinity (1&2), I thought it they had a lot in common. Baldur's gate being better because they left out the "lesser" jokes. Humor is very subjective, so let's leave it at that.

Really excited to see it's a turn-based Dragon Age Origins. Loved that game except for the kind of bland setting, but this looks much better visually. Really psyched.
It's a shame many people can't take things as they are, it was never going to be just like the originals.
