Matewis: It's really well made, but the game is too fast for me atm. I think the game would really benefit from reduced harvester (edit or just fewer oil rigs perhaps - in SP I quickly earn credits faster than I can spend it) hauls and lengthened build times. Also, some sort of diminished benefit on build speeds if you build too many production buildings. You can churn out units at a very fast pace after a while with several production buildings. I'll probably return to it once another faction has been included along along with whatever balance changes has been made by then.
I think there should be some production speed cap that would limit the unit building spamm. If they imposed some kind of cap that would limit the effect of multiple production building placement that would help the game a lot.

Personally I'm still waiting for Red Alert 1 which is really kind of what I expected from 8-bit armies.

Red Alert 1 was great yes :) Personally, what I'm waiting for is another Dune RTS, if that will ever happen. Or perhaps I'll just try to beat Emperor's campaign again sometime. I got stuck on the Atreides homeworld playing as Harkonnen.
By the way, check out openRA sometime if you haven't already.

Oh, I did checkout Open RA but while it looks similar to Red Alert 1 it just isn't it.

Definitely a Dune RTS would be great. Emperor was awsome. I finished all of the campaigns. I mistakenly picked Feyd in the Harkonnen campaign and it was really hard to defeat Abulurd with that small base you get on Geidi Prime :)
Just to chip in for a sec, that's what I found. I liked OpenRA, but it just didn't seem to 'move' right.
Well, I might as well ask my question here rather than creating a new thread for it:
What about the story? While the gameplay being similar to C&C is all well and good, part of the reason I like C&C was its story, which wasn't an epic tale but pretty interesting nonetheless.

So does 8-bit Armies have a storyline too? Is it good? Any references to the original C&C or Red Alert storylines?

It doesn't really have a storyline. You have 25 skirmish like missions with mission description aka you have to defend against general Seth or something like that. So you have to defend against characters from C&C games which is really the only story connection the game has to C&C. Its like the AI where you have Cabal, Seth, Solomon, Eva, etc. It has a lot of things that hint at C&C.

This one of the gripes I and other singleplayer players have with the game. There is no video sequences in between or scripted story campaign in the missions. Realistically its made for multiplayer. Which is where this game shines.

Thanks Matruchus. Looks like I'll unwishlist it then. For the time being at least.

Please don't remove it from your wishlist :-) The devs are awesome and they continue to develop the game at very solid pace. They updated the game few times since the release and they're doing what the community suggests.

Take a look at GOG's game subforum - they're here and they're listening to the players!

The game is fun and it has potential, it's still C&C spirit presented in less serious way - I loved classic C&C and I like 8-bit Armies very much. Give the game a chance, you won't regret it :-)

Ah, but unwishlisting it doesn't mean I'm no longer interested in it. I just prefer my wishlist to be for games that I'm willing to buy right now.

I'll probably end up getting 8-bit Armies, but I'll wait for a few patches to appear first. Like you said, it has potential.

HunchBluntley: Maybe in another year, they'll release the Super Complete Enhanced Edition that will contain what people would've expected from it upon its original release, kinda like with that Caribbean! game. =)

Good luck with your refund request (though I wouldn't get my hopes up, since you already downloaded and played it).

rtcvb32: This is why you should wait for reviews. Waiting a week or so isn't so bad for getting the heads up of how it plays looks and behaves.
Personally, I wouldn't dream of buying a game these days before at least a few months have elapsed, both so I can buy it at a low(er) price, and (more importantly) so it should be patched up to a reasonable state. I know a lot of people don't like to wait that long, though. : )

I am in the boat now of not even buying games anymore on day one or 4 months down the road, I would rather wait a year or 2 after release to get it knowing this is the final product, Stupid me and my urges to play a C&C game made me blow after conversion 18 bucks on this unfinished game that I want a refund on. lol

it has no story what so ever, All you get is one faction and color pallet to change said faction to make it look different from enemy faction, 2 has online and skirmish mods which should be standard on any RTS now days, has a single player campaign that only has objectives like kill enemy within 10 minutes on the 8 maps the game has

8 maps
1 faction
skirmish
online mode
thats pretty much it for the lot you pay

but pros are it runs like butter and plays like old C&C Games that is it nothing more.

skip it for now

I think I've bought too many games in the last 2-3 years. Still, a number of them I've enjoyed fully, and only a couple I've played immediately after buying that I felt were worth it (TIS-100).

Honestly I think I'd need a cheesy story to make it worth playing, or some long term objective. I remember loving the C&C FMV short clips that explained what was going on. As a teen it made little sense and would make a lot more sense now if I replay it.
I'm enjoying it. Considering the amount of games I've purchased but barely touched is embarrassing, so even if a game isn't as fully-featured as we would like, at launch, I've certainly gotten my money's worth. That said, if you're expecting a fleshed-out C&C-lite RTS with a story, that'll leave you wanting... at least for now. The mechanics are all (mostly) in place, and while it doesn't have "quirky" characters/heroes, it does have a very nice style. It's enough to sate me for the time being.

This is exactly my thinking you can't compare a game with a release price of 50€ (Red Alert 1 or 2 for example) with a game like 8-bit Armies with release price of 15€.

DreamedArtist: 5 dollars more you can get the whole C&C set on origin remember that.
8 something games that probably all sold for $40 at one point...
