I disable automatic updates because I want for my system to run at optimal; especially for the Witcher 3.
So even though I have purchased windows 7 five months ago and activated it, Microsoft has put something on my pc saying that this version of windows is not genuine. I called them and said that I would not turn on updates, they said if I don't then my windows will be not genuine. They gave me no choice.

Any help except turn updates on would be appreciated!
Well an OS that refuses to update is usually a pirated copy. The logic is pretty sound. Best solution is to turn on updates.

You don't have to let the updates install automatically. But you should install them. Just install them when you want to.

Not installing them will not keep your system running optimally.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Have you read the last sentence?

I was not aware that I must install updates I thought that was a personal choice.

Yeah I did and I didn't care. The point is more important don't you think? If you think about it, it is the most obvious sign of a bootlegged OS. Besides for internet security etc it is a very good idea to keep your computer up to date.

I'm putting a lot of work, time and money into my system and it is disturbing to me that Microsoft hijacks my system ;(

They're not hijacking it. You're the one neglecting it.

Since i installed Win7 i have had a 'not genuine' the entire time, but i don't have any issues.

Then again i tend to also install something to help bypass the annoying protections.

Regardless, screw automatic updates... I stopped trusting MS long ago...

I use to have a not genuine too. They killed it. Shit happens, I got caught and got my own copy. Though to be fair I'd rather have my computer upto date, running the best it can and not letting it suffer due to internet paranoia.
It's your pc.
You have paid for windows 7 and it's your choice wether you want any update or not.
Most of windows 7 updates are absurd. Why would a english user would install a language pack for chinese? I would suggest turn off updates and install updates when you feel like installing one. Try activating windows when online. It should work.

Language packs are optional and only get updated if you select it.

to be fair man, im havingthe same issue - ever since the windows 10 thingie started. it seems to be related as previously (and after a dead HD and all) I was fine, UNTIL the windows 10 bollocks. now I'm getting the "not genuine" crap every half hour -MS tells me to contact HP, they tell me to contact MS... my serial is the one off the sticker. Kinda reckon the OP may be having a similar issue - also might not, but no need to go buckfast on it, eh?!

*shrugs* iv got four computers in the house hold (dont ask) that all have legit copies that get updated regularly and not one issue since the windows 10 thing. I'd just assume the not updating thing is the key.
