I loved the 3D aspect of "GKIII:Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned". I liked being able to move the camera around and look under things and around corners, etc. I also like the fact that, to me, it was a good adventure game (although with strange puzzles, sometimes).

Does anyone know of any other games like this? Ones in which you play as a detective or investigator, and you have to search for clues, piece together evidence, solve puzzles, etc? I'm not really interested in point-and-click adventures, unless they are fully 3D where I can explore the environment.

So, with all of that being said, what do you all think? Any other games out there (not just on GoG) that may scratch my itch for 3D exploration, detective-type gaming?

Thanks!

If you don't mind the humour and use of Full-motion video there is the later Tex Murphy games Under a Killing Moon, Pandora Directive, Overseer and Tesla Effect. Those are FMV mixed with explorable "3d" environments and are also nior-detective games. I use quotes around "3d" since Under a Killing Moon and Pandora Directive are a bit more like Doom or Duke 3d where it's 2d made to look 3d but you can still move around and explore, Overseer and Tesla Effect are actual 3d enviroments but still with FMV cut scenes. Also Pandora Directive and I believe Tesla Effect(haven't played it yet) have branching paths that lead to multiple endings.

I had my eye on those Tex Murphy games. I may just give them a shot! Thanks!

As DCT's just said, the Tex Murphy series fit your requirements, are available here on Gog and are very good.

In addition to them, I would strongly recommend the Sherlock Holmes games developped by Frogwares. You can skip the Mystery of the Mummy, as it is a different (and awkward) beast.

Admittedly, though I own the first three of their 3d Sherlock Holmes games, I've only played the first so far (The Awakened). I keep the others for a better time, as I would with a fine bottle of scotch. :)
The Awakened is a very good game, mixing puzzles and exploration. I don't know how old your daughter is, but the atmosphere is surprisingly darker than many horror-themed titles, so you may want to play this one alone.

Edit: Alas, good luck hunting for drm-free copies of them. I got mine during a Groupees bundle, but today they're only available through the enemy.

javarox1022:
The two main ones that spring to mind are Frogware's Sherlock Holmes games and the Adventure Company's Agatha Christie games. They are all in 3D and provide a good detective experience, with a combination of puzzles and interrogating suspects. Just be aware that there are a number of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie games that are hidden object games rather than true adventures, so be careful which ones you choose (just ask if you need any further information).

Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring is available on GOG, but as far as I'm aware the other Frogware games aren't available DRM-free. Unfortunately none of the Agatha Christie games are currently available anywhere digitally, so ebay is probably the only option.
Post Mortem and Still Life series?! Solid stories, well-developed characters.
LA Noire is kind of what you're after only crossed with GTA in a weird kind of way...
maybe murdered: soul suspect?

I think they are. At least they were, 3 years ago.

They were indeed, as that's how I got them, but as far as I'm aware they are only now available digitally through Steam.

I actually have this game (bought it as a digital download from Amazon for about $4) and haven't played it, yet. I think I'll do so now! Thanks!

I enjoyed Still Life, a lot. I see that Still Life 2 is available. I may check it out. Thanks!

In Cold Blood might do you some justice - more espionage / Bond themed in a Dystopian setting, but mixes adventure and some clue finding etc with a little action too (nothing too taxing mind), great voice work and its one of only two games by Revolution I rate at all (the other being B.A.S.S.).

Edit: should point out it works on prefixed camera angles (think resident evil), in case thats a no-no for you.

Well I see other Gogers have already covered the great Tex Murphy series as well as Post Mortem. I would also suggest another 2 games:

Jack the Ripper, in which you play a reporter investigating murders in New York in 1903, similar to the ripper murders. The graphics might be slightly poor (2003 3d and all that) but the soundtrack was great.

Scratches features some detective work too, although this might be a bit streching ehat you are looking for...

I (21 year old man) also swear by the Nancy Drew games. They're so cheesy but just so entertaining.

EDIT: Also, the Sherlock Holmes adventure games.
