Started watching Mai-HiME and will hopefully finish it by tomorrow. Had this anime on my radar for the last ten years. Dislike the comedy so far and that one guy is really annoying but apart from that, it's ok.

Finished another two movies before that:

Coquelicot-zaka kara: I just loved the characters' maturity, despite them being somewhat young. You rarely ever see that which makes it all the better. The art is good (it's Ghibli). The setting is excellent. There isn't much character growth, as it's more a slice-of-life anime but for what was shown, it worked well. This is one of the very few anime where I rated it above the average.
Omoide Poroporo: Another Ghibli. Art is good as well. But the faces aren't...especially when they smile. It's awful and somewhat creepy. I dunno, something must have went wrong. As for the characters...most are weird too. The main character seems to be really childish (well, it's part of the theme as it switched between her (27 years old) and her younger self (ten years old) but still...) while the main male character is...I dunno. It seemed like they wanted to portray characters realistically but they let them (and especially him) make weird sounds with his mouth. I hated it. I also hated it how he laughed (together with her) for no reason whatsoever. The end was terrible and completely beyond belief. Even before that, before the halfway point, I was contemplating on whether to end it because I really wanted to punch the screen. Often times, I thought these two main characters must be mentally impaired or something, grrr. There is no real story in the movie, the main character is just thinking of the past. Those are definitely the better scenes. Ah, can't think more of this, otherwise I'll end up flipping the table because it was so frustrating to watch.

The reason might be that they recorded the dialogue first and then the animation was fitted to that.
Taeko's childhood past was made animation first and dialogue after.

I have seen the movie but it is over 5-10 years ago and can't remember a thing, so I can't take a part for the other things you mentioned.

Nah, it has nothing to do with when it was recorded. I would have liked to link to a clip showcasing that but I couldn't find one when I made that post.

As for Mai-HiME...screw that Tate-guy. I'm halfway through and he has been annoying since the beginning.
Not sure if this was mentioned already but the second season of Konosuba is now on Crunchyroll. I saw it and enjoyed it. I also got hold of the Kindle version of the first issue of the comic and I will say the show did some things better but I wish they kept in how they met the lich.

Wooo, the second season is already airing?! I've just seen the trailer for it :o
All right people, voting for TAAF's fan award has started. You can vote using twitter once everyday from now till 16 Feb. So if you don't want a certain anime to grab the headlines again, it's time to do your part! ;P
Pff, excluding people who don't use Twitter.

Finished Mai-HiME yesterday. It became more and more disappointing and the end straight up sucked. Can't say too much, as I don't want to spoil anything but damn, it was bad...which is funny, because the beginning was decently fine (screw comedy and ecchi in general though) but even with the good premise, it fell apart over time. The worst character was the student counsil president, the most annoying and frustrating one, definitely that Tate-loser.
They also wasted precious time with fillers instead of developing characters, which would have been necessary.

not happy with the art quality in the second season so far, the characters look horrendous in half the episode.

Just Day 1 and the top two was the same (YOI & JG). Day 2 doesn't seem to change much either...
Finished another two movies:

The Sky Crawlers: Disliked the CGI, was fine with the slow pace and the characters...served their purpose. It's a really hard one to rate. Barely anything is said, a lot is implied. There is practically no story either. It's definitely an anime one has to rewatch or think about a bit more afterwards.
Kurenai no Buta: Just deleted what I wrote before, as I read about what exactly happened at the end, though, I still have a gripe with it. Typical Ghibli world, but based on reality. Good character contrast. The story is ok, albeit it could be longer. Wasn't bad but wasn't too good either.

It must have been at least a decade now so I don't remember everything but at least you watched the anime and not the manga. In the manga, he's the protagonist.

Ouch. But the anime had a 30-seconds-of-Tate every episode which was annoying enough, especially when they show him five times in a row sitting beside the bed in the hospital.

Yes/No, something more specific in that regard (can't say too much because of spoilers - and I don't think this forum has spoiler tags?) which doesn't make sense.

Was the CGI really that bad?

Yeah, no spoiler tags here but don't worry about it. No need to elaborate further. =)

Didn't watch it myself, as I don't want my eyes to melt but yeah, it has really bad CGI and the frame rate is terrible too.

Good thing they produced a proper series (albeit way too short) 20 years ago.
