That case though. =S

Elmofongo: I would rather run a PC game on a large 4k televison screen with PC support than get 3 1080p monitors :P
Or a VR goggles.
I don't like VR, but yes, if I only gamed, I would too choose the large TV. I can't understand how people like to play with physical monitor's borders.

realkman666: Have you ever tried Linux multi-desktops on one screen?
Of course, but it resembles the minimized windows from a practical approach, as I still have to take away focus from the spreadsheet for googling stuff, and if I want to read PDF's while typing, I must content with half-windows.
On one hand, its a hideous machine and I don't like his character as I feel it got bloody stale. On the other hand, free computer.

And on the other other hand, I'm using a Dell Monitor, Keyboard, and Optiplex 780. Dell owns Alienware, for those in the dark.

(My first wholly owned computer was an Optiplex G1. A 4 GB HD.)

He got a small discount.

Are we talking small as in 'Here's a 10 dollar mail in rebate' or 100$ off?

At least 10%, that I know.

Same here. Especially like in my case, where dedicated space is not an option. 3 monitors is also more power consuming, and a nuisance for games that don't run on three properly. Really, it's for the people who forget how far their heads are up their behinds.

Question, have you used a multi-monitor setup?

Sitting, watching my friend try and set his up, let alone play it on a system that chugged at a snails pace under the resolution. Not to mention the money he paid for said system. Witnessing and dodging the bullet is enough.

Did I also not say that 'dedicated space is not an option' for me?
I have one 27'' 1080p screen for PC stuff and a 720p beamer (91'' picture) for movies and multiplayer gaming.

I could understand a higher res and the ability to be able use the big screen better in daylight, but I never really got the multiple screen setup, not even for work since every common OS features multiple virtual desktops by now afaik.

It's just a waste of power (who cares about the environment anyway?), space and money (actually twice, buying and paying for the power).

Elmofongo: Look at that PC setup O_O

Also why does he need 3 monitors?
I don't envy him even though all I have is a weak laptop with integrated graphics. Why? Because he earned all that he is showing off with 6 years of hard work. So I'm happy for him. I also don't get why all these people are attacking him for buying an Alienware. If he failed to save $400 or $500, it's not a crime. And some people, just don't want to spend hours of their life building a PC from scratch.

So the answer is no.

Where there's will, there's a way. You may end up with a weird desktop resolution of 2160x1920, but you can do it.
And when you manage to, do try a multi-monitor setup. It is worth it, and it is an excellent way to do whatever it is you do, even though a few games do have issues with multi-monitor setups.

As already mentioned, the ability to have one program open on one monitor, and another open in a second, and be able to monitor them both is much better than having to switch desktops. Especially if you don't need to interact with one of the programs, but only glance at it and be able to read what is said there. Win+<- or Win+-> does help quite a bit with that on Win7 onward, but you are using half the space you could be using.

Yes, in the end it's about the cost/gain-ratio again, I can barely fit my one PC screen inside my appartment since I've got so many musical instruments though, but screens are power hogs and environmental issues shouldn't be cast aside.

JMich: snip
Haha yep, that was the explanation of the answer 'no'. Sorry I tend to overly justify things sometimes. As it is, I multitask very well with one screen and the only reason I'd probably find the need to have more is in my chosen career once I'm in it. Gaming with it is annoying because then I need to worry about my system being able to perform adequately under the extra resolution, which in turn costs more and that's just not viable for me. As it stands I haven't been that interested in AAA titles for long enough to warrant more screens.

I was under the impression that LCD monitors were in the area of 30W, so not sure I'd call it a power hog. Or have they gone that higher in energy consumption?
