I received a tentative transplant date yesterday from Mt. Sinai Hospital, and I'd like to host a GA to celebrate.

My kidneys failed about a year ago, and I've been on dialysis since last April. I'm lucky, because I respond well to the treatment, but it wears a guy down.

I'm now only a few weeks out from a transplant, if all goes well. My brother is donating one of his kidneys to me, and we are a good match. The whole thing is weird and wild and a little imponderable (partly because I can't afford any of it). It's amazing that this kind of technology is routinely and safely available to so many. I'm a little overwhelmed both by the reality of the science, and by my luck in being alive in a time and place where I can take part in it. In another age, or in another place, I would already be dead by now.

And so I'd like to give away the first three Age of Wonders games, on Steam.

- Age of Wonders
- Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic
- Age of Wonders 2: The Wizard's Throne

I played a bunch of Shadow Magic a few years ago, and recently started the first one for the first time. These are great games, if you like this sort of thing. Which I do.

Depending on how the responses turn out, I'll either give the three to one person who doesn't own any of them or I'll give them to separate people who have some of them and need to fill in the gaps. So let me know which games you want when you enter. I wish I could be giving out AoW3, but, hey, Not Made Of Money - I don't have that one myself either. And while I have insurance, the kind of med stuff ahead of me now is not any kind of free, in America - then again, what is, apart from these games? 8)

As part of your entry, tell me something that's a Wonder, or something Wonderful.

While there is no rep limit to enter, winners must be forum participants who do more than ask for free games. I'm not dissing asking for free games, but if that's the only reason you come here, this GA is not for you. If you have commonly been a troll in discussion threads, you will not be winning here. Santa's prerogative.

I'll keep this open at least until Wednesday the 24th. You may enter for others. I don't care if you have a giant backlog - I know I do! - but please plan to play these games yourself, and redeem them promptly. Not meant for trading or other gifting. Thanks.

Edit: I will keep this open until after all the Secret Santa stuff clears. If you are involved in that and have these games on your wishlist, let me know in your post, and I'll keep you in consideration.

NOT IN but+1. I hope all goes well with your kidney situation man. Be sure to tell your brother he is an awesome and brave man. He himself is a wonder. May life fare well for you two!
giving in separate should be the way to go, want the thread to suffice if that is what you want, but that is really your pregorative, should the time come

And get back up through the power of science as Stronheim said best GERMAN MEDICINE IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD, but expect that from this day and age so, enjoy not only what you can but recover from the treatment, I myself have dealt with being locked in the red from 6 unknown bacteria while having neumonia lateral-basal so, get your earned rest
Those are good games. Im not in, just saying good luck with your treatment and recovery.
Thanks, folks, for the good wishes.
I want to enter for Shadow Magic and II, but I have the games on my Secret Santa wishlist; am I allowed to enter, but if I win, not claim it until after the Secret Santa is over? Then, if I get the games from the Secret Santa, you just reroll for a new winner?

As for something that's a wonder to me... I'd have to say my nephew. The tyke is nearing a year and a half old, and seeing just how fast a baby really learns is amazing... He's starting to talk, usually only one word at a time, but he's often pointing to things saying "What that?" and will usually try to repeat what we tell him. He hasn't said much in the way of sentences yet, but there have been some exceptions to that, and I'm going to miss him when he goes back to his parents in January. By time I see him again after that, he'll probably be capable of a full conversation.

Maybe I should just wait until the Secret Santa thing is over before I end this - I'm giving and receiving in there too, so it might come up for other people as well. I don't have a problem waiting until the gifting settles and then seeing what people still want.

I love my nephews too!
Not in, but +999999999999999 for this thread. Hopes you get totally better.

I think US medical care is one of the best in world so may be in good hands.
I wish you the greatest of luck with your surgery!

I hope everthing goes well that surgery and the new kidney.

...

Well, it will actually be a used kidney.

...

Better than nothing I suppose.

...

I hope you got a good price on that.

...

What were we talking about?

What I mean is: Good luck on the surgery, a prompt recovery, bye to dialysis.
Thanks for everything and the games.
Not in for myself (not my genre and I have them on HB) but I might want to enter for someone else later.
Once we have more entries, (Come on people!)
Not in but I hope very much for a successful surgery and speedy recovery! Best wishes to you, Linus.

I find it a wonder the heights of stupidity the human race is capable of ascending to,still today, when people should know better.

I have Shadow Magic and would only want AOW 2 if you decide to separate them.

Congrats on the surgery date, and hope all goes well...thanks to your brother as well.
Not in, but I wish you the best with your kidney transplant.
Now I feel bad that I'm not gifting you Age of Wonders 3.

I'm glad the operation is near at hand and wish you good luck with it.
Best of wishes. I hope everything goes well and you recover quickly!

For a thing that's wonderful, here is something different.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but I've been recently looking at some of the entries to the International Obfuscated C Code Contest and it really amazes me to see some of the stuff people come up with.

The two examples on wikipedia are really great, especially the circle one
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Obfuscated_C_Code_Contest#Examples

Another excellent entry is a maze generator:

And here's one that prints lyrics of 12 days of Christmas. With explanations

Also, here is a page dedicated to quines. Again it's really amazing what some people can create.
There is one written in False
http://www.nyx.net/~gthompso/self_fals.txt
and several in brainfuck
http://www.nyx.net/~gthompso/self_brainf.txt

As for the giveaway, I've got Age of Wonders on GOG and I really love this genre, so I'd like to be in for the other two. However, since I don't use Steam much (only got the Orange Box), could anyone explain what DRM is involved with these games and how different would they be from the GOG versions? (is all that is required is to be connected to the interent and logged to Steam before you start, after which the game is exactly same?)

If I don't enter for myself, I might enter for someone else later.

EDIT:
I'm in please for Shadow Magic and AoW2
