Yea not a good way to keep new customers, and off they go now to spread the news about good service.
I would be a little upset here also.

HereForTheBeer: If I were new here, I'd also be irritated. How do you entice customers to buy more product with promises of a freebie once a purchase quota is met, and then say "Sorry, but we ran out of this product which has, quite literally, an inexhaustable supply."?
Well, they decided before the sale how many to give away and how many games on sale. It's crazy of them to have an extremely limited amount of free bonus games WITHOUT TELLING US THAT FACT. The should have made the announcement say " only 100 bonus games, first come first served ", or however many. They kinda suckered people in here, but I'm sure not intentionally(look at all the freebies and guarantees they do give). Just stupidly.

They didn't have an inexhaustible supply, because they don't have infinite money with which to buy an unlimited number of freebies to give away. :P

They did tell us there was a limited number of games on sale, AND a limited number of freebies available. They even explicitly said that there was a risk of the freebies running out.

They did tell you the free games were limited, not seeing it doesn't mean it's not there.
My mistake. I only noticed the sale after the freebies were all gone.

OldFatGuy: Here's a tip... when the free games get "wolfed down," end the insomnia sale. No frustrated customers.
Actually that's a pretty bad idea. Plenty of people out there who might want to buy a few games on sale, who never cared about the free game. They shouldn't loose the chance to buy stuff because the free stuff run out.

Ending the INSOMNIA Sale early would cause carnage on the site, given its near cult status.

Which is fine when all of the items are offered for sale at the same time. But when they do it one-by-one as in the Insomnia Sales, you end up with the situation that the OP faces. He did what he was "supposed to do" - buy more and more games - and got left in the lurch simply by virtue of her/his chosen titles coming a bit too late in the cycle..

The solution (for next time, of course) is simple: gOg know the total number of games that will be offered in this sale. Divide that number by 10 and make sure to have that many free games available.

It would be one thing if they ran out of keys the last day, but they ran out 2.5 days into a scheduled at least 4.5 days...people planning ahead were caught in the lurch.

Even those who heard about the announcement...I bought a few extra future gift keys to hit the next freebie. It reset the counter as if I had received one...

Hopefully GoG will make it right (which supposedly was posted), but I haven't heard anything yet and I put in a ticket when it occurred.

Yeah, hopefully they'll come up with a good solution for those left a bit short. And they'll make the next Insomnia installment a bit better; seems like they've made improvements each time so maybe this won't be a problem on the next go-around.
What's stopping GOG offering copies of the Witcher series to fulfill the freebies?...

Or any of the titles for which gOg is the publisher:

I think you both hit the nail there. How can they make any excuse when they own some games that could be used instead of the original ones to fix this situation? They would be already making money from the cut they get front the sale's games purchases, so it's not like they are giving them entirely "free" (and they are just digital godds anyway. They are infinite)
This whole sale was a goddamn nightmare salad of bad ideas.

I hope this is the last time we'll see this asinine Insomnia sale nonsense.
