DubConqueror: The Luftwaffe was just an army, and not everyone serving in the army was a Nazi. You're a Nazi if you support the Nazi doctrine, not just by being in the army. The only branch of the military of which you can say most everyone in there was a Nazi is the SS.
See my post above on that. And please stop pestering me, I'm getting really tired of this Nazi apologizing.

DubConqueror: With your kind of labelling, you'd proclaim the overwhelming majority of Germans who used to live in Germany during Hitler's regime a Nazi. Guilt by association isn't proof of guilt.
Not lived. Actively served.

Serving wasn't a choice in Nazi Germany. For Beate it might be, as a woman, but that was not your point. Your point was everyone who was in the Luftwaffe was a Nazi.

BTW, I tire likewise of you painting the world in black and white and refusing to see the colours in between. So yes, I'll stop pestering you (if I can help myself) and stop this useless to-and-fro that internet discussions often are. And we've veered off-topic for the second time anyway. From wanting to buy a bundle with region-lock, to porn, to what makes someone a Nazi. Internet is a weird thing.

It's not weird. It's Godwin's Law.
I'd rather be executed than be drafted to serve the Wehrmacht. There's always a choice.
That, or be a subversive for the German resistance.

Question, was every Greek that served in the army during the 67-74 period a fascist or a junta supporter? Mandatory military service under an oppressive/hostile government.

Edit: every Greek, not any Greek.

I'm not sure the ferret agrees. :D

Hardly comparable quantities, the junta and the Wehrmacht, since one was a single country occupation and the other was an invading army, but I'll humor you:
Yes, anyone who SERVED in the military without ACTIVELY sabotaging the junta was a passive supporter. There's no such thing as a bystander in these cases. You either do, or you're a fucking coward. And cowards are great fuel for a junta to grow roots.
I do have an uncle that served in the army during the junta. And he served Papadopoulos his food. He could have poisoned the shit out of that bastard but he didn't. I don't like that uncle much. No one does.

sunshinecorp: Being a pilot for the Luftwaffe doesn't make you a Nazi... sure... sure...
You know, I'm obviously going to ignore you from now on. So there's that.

That's not right. Of course every German even today is and was a Nazi, I should know that. Sauerkraut FTW!!! Furthermore every Dutch smokes cheese and smells like weed (or the other way round), every Russian is drunk and melancholic all the day, every USAmerican is fat and stupid, every Greek is living off Gyros only and can't handle money.
And every French has a baguette bread under the axillary and is of course a very good L-L-Lover...

Ask your family about it. I'm willing to bet that you do have family members that were in the army (or navy, or air force) during that period, simply by the number of people that were drafted then. Then feel free to call them cowards and/or junta supporters.

I do know my family's history on that matter and I've judged them accordingly, thank you very much. See above.

This is all so sweet. Presuming we would have the same views we now have if we were born in those times. So, so sweet.

The same views? You mean that you should take a stand against evil? I'm pretty sure a lot of people had those views back then too. They were called the resistance.

Do you think you would have been this courageous, if your heroic resistance endangered not only your own life, but the lives of your family and friends? As others have said, things are rarely as simple as you claim them to be, and it's ridiculous to judge entire generations/nations from the comfort of our ( relatively ) safe modern environments.

Also, wasn't this thread about video games and porn, just a few hours back? Thanks, Obama.

I don't think, I know. But since it's impossible for me to prove this to you (and pointless) why do you even ask?
I do not believe in countries or religion or politics and I'd rather avoid conflict. I have no interest in such things. But if someone tried to oppress me or those I cared about or was hell-bent on taking over the goddamn world, well... I can promise you I'd give my life to get in their way. Just to be annoying, you know? :P

I guess none of us can really claim that, until we actually end up in such a situation.

Still, I can respect that general philosophy. :P
