IAmBored2: You are aware that Steam did the same exact thing right?

You're not standing up for anyone by picking on GoG when Steam pulled the game from their stores a year ago because the CCP demanded it.

You can't get away from china, they demand absolute control and in exchange they have 1.4 billion people willing to buy your goods. Corporations are never going to make the ethical decision to abandon the chinese market, so counting on them to do so is folly.
'Cuck' is so damn watered down by now.
But I'm sure you can dry it off with a towel and hang it on the wall next to your testicles.

I don't bend to totalitarians and I don't take advice from people who give in to totalitarianism with the excuse "they won't stop". I will never bend my knee to a country that still has concentration camps and use slavery to supply the sleeping west with goods.

Fuck you for even implying that the next step is doing nothing.

bliip: So now they are cancelling various exports from Australia to 'punish' us I guess. But there's plenty of other countries to do business with & hopefully more local companies & manufacturers look to other places to sell instead.

They're acting like a big bully & it's up to governments & populations to say enough is enough. Because any country that doesn't tow the line will face the same issue.
avatar
klogd: They use that weapon of mass-whining so well though. Always just single targeting a country/issue at a time, so that country is left standing alone facing China. If they were to attack everyone they usually attack at the same time, countries would probably find it quite easy to unite and stand up to them.
They did, though: it's called SARS-CoV-2, and the World Health Organisation spewed their propaganda that it's not contagious.

I am implying that the next step is for you stupid consumers to stop with lazy protesting and actually write to your government demanding that democratic nations only trade with other democratic nations. You don't give a crap about any of the stuff you're spewing... lazy activism accomplishes nothing. Corporations always do what is most profitable, and unless you have 1.4 billion people hiding up your ass the only way to change things is through government regulation

Yeah, after this last election i truly trust elections, let me tell you. Also, as a small government type of guy, who doesn't like the oppression of the CCP, it also means that trying to use the government to get what i want, as opposed to just trying to get government our of our lives, would be hypocritical.

IAmBored2: You do not understand. If you want to do business in china then you NEED to do ANYTHING the CCP tells you to do, you have no say. The CCP says pull a game from your store you do it. The CCP says to tell your NBA player to stop tweeting you do it. And please, the decision to pull the game was all the CCP's doing, death threats may have been involved but steam caved too. If you want to be free of the CCP's control you need to accept what that actually means.

ReynardFox: China is becoming more arrogant and aggressive as time goes on, constantly pushing the envelope and taking over more and more things, and stands against them need to be taken.

Fuck the Chinese market, there's a whole world that isn't within China who want to do business, they aren't the be all and end all of commerce and I'm sick of the apologetics for this commie nation and their abusive, thuggish tactics. They wouldn't have the influence they do if companies (and consumers) would stop capitulating to them.

GOG had a chance to do just that, but instead decided to give a big middle finger to the rest of the goddamn world.

Also I don't give half a shit what happens on Steam or any other DRM platform, I have already been boycotting Steam from the moment they locked Half Life 2 to the internet.
Yes, you are very correct in stating that the rest of the world matters. The people supporting GOG's nonsense are basically saying that it is impossible to make money without China. That is just not true. The truth is that they just want more money. And they are willing to sell their souls to get it.

So you're the type of person who wants NOTHING to change but only wants to give the appearance of fighting for change. That is true hypocrisy.

Either you actually want the CCP out of your lives, or you just want to make noise about the CCP. You cannot get the CCP out of your life if you're unwilling to do what needs to be done.

Oh, then what, after i empower the government with the power necessary to do so, i just invented a new CCP, but instead it's the United Socialist States of America? Real big change, there. The problem is, people seek the power that government provides, but it's just short term gains, and anything you make available for yourself as a weapon can be taken and used against you. You also think China wouldn't get similar influence over time, again, and use whatever means necessary to just take over? Instead, the slow road is the stronger road: you have to remember that government always will be downstream of the people, even in a dictatorship. Look at how well the riots were stopped. Oh wait, the government couldn't put a stop to them, and some of the government even joined them. See, notice the government isn't enforcing masking, either? 'Cause they know that there isn't enough courts to process all that shit in a timely manner. Governments rely on 90% of the people obeying. You get a good 10% going, the whole damn system collapses.

YES! This is so true. You will be removing one authoritarian by being an authoritarian. There actually are other options and voting with your wallet is the biggest thing you can do. At this point this dude is just running his mouth and wanting other people to fix a problem for him. You want to talk about lazy. And at this point this guys is just mad and wants to try to name call and shame people into creating a bigger government that is more in your life like China.

I don't think voting with your wallet works these days unless you can get enough people to agree with you, especially when we're talking, maybe, 30% of your customer base. You need another 30%, which isn't going to fly.

I vote we poke the teddy bear, himself, and see if we can get some reaction out of him. China would loose a meme war pretty quickly, because even 1 meme getting through appears to be a national crisis. Unlike some of those devs, we aren't even obligated to be subtle.

Well money talks. I can't agree with you there. But how exactly do you propose to get those messages through. They just block everything they disagree with. They are the ultimate SJWs.

Money talks, but you don't have enough to talk louder than china.

Anyway, i'm just saying, that if they can make GOG block a game over a single slip of virtual paper, that was later removed, imagine if we covered facebook, twittter, etc, in winnie the pooh, perhaps with a red shirt. You see how nutty the SJWs went when someone posted "It's OK to be white" at a few public places. Imagine China having to make all these companies block any mention of the yellow bear. EIther these companies are going to capitulate, which is going to kill them entirely 'cause people will just do what they did with myspace and just find new places, because banning a yellow bear is ridiculous, or they'll give China the proverbial middle-finger and China will have to cut ties with those companies, or they're going to have to explain why they can't control all these foreigners getting away with making fun of their fluffly, yellow teddy bear of a leader.

Bonus points if you can get this shit rolling on steam, somehow on epic, tiktok, etc, where you know they don't want block.

Ok, and telling us about Steam serves what?
Look, i am a GOG buyer. I wasn't buying games on Steam. My whole library on Steam is three games and one is a free game while i have over 1500 on GOG. This is the place i spend my money because i believed in this place more. So if both GoG and Steam do a certain bad action guess what will annoy me more? Is not that i am fine with Steam's actions.
What am i gonna post on Steam though? Will i say i will not buy games from them? I wasn't buying games from them anyway.
That i feel betrayed? i never trusted them anyway, i was avoiding them.

So yeah of course many of us here will care more about GoG because this is the place we trusted more and because of that we will feel more betrayed and annoyed by the actions of GoG!.

Once again i will say this to CDP. I DON'T CARE that much about the bad Cyberpunk release. I was willing to even defend them against people that seem to be a little too much on the cancelling bandwagon over a bad release.
A mistake with a game is one thing. Censoring on behalf of a dictatorship against the people of the whole world is a completely different thing though. To me THAT is the BIG fail of trust and not the Cyberpunk 2077 drama.
And yet they have replied more than once about Cyberpunk but continue to stay silent about what they did with Devotion.

One person does not. All of the other markets are bigger than China by far. They just will block your chats to prevent your messages to get through. China is a paper tiger.

Steam didn't do "the exact thing". Steam had an entry for the developer, stills hosts their Detention game, and still hosts the Devotion Steam community forums. It even still hosts the game, if you were lucky enough to get a key, and according to the developers/publishers, they are the ones who pulled the availability on Steam, not Steam itself. Steam isn't holding a gun on them for them to say this.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1006510

And the funny thing is, while the forums and community have taken the Winnie the Pooh meme and have run with it, Red Candle Games removed it for GOG, which would have shifted focus away from those forums. So .... good job 50 cent army?

I wouldn't call them a paper tiger. They are accomplishing things, unlike a paper diger (dog with much bark and no bite). As for blocking, that's the intent. Make them block half the world. Make them block half the world in places that they hold vested interests (stocks). They'll either alienate their entire customr base, which effectively replaces the half-assed-monopolies they've taken to buying stocks in (with ompetitors they don't own), or they will have to learn to live with our pooh jokes. Chinais a boxer with a really, really soft belly. Apparently it's so soft a fuzzy yellow teddy bear is even enough to hurt really bad. Imagine if we actually smacked them with something a little more harsh.
