I know, minor quibble, but the image used for the original Pool of Radiance is actually from the 2001 game, Ruins of Myth Drannor. Since that game is considered to be far inferior to the original PoR, it's probably worth getting the right cover image up there.

I thought it was obnoxious as well. Pool of Radiance ROMDrannor has to be better than Pool of Radiance. Its top down and the d and d games that are first person dont interest me as they suck uganda dick.

I nearly bought the collection because I thought, Pool of Radiance Ruins of Myth Drannor, finally!
And then I noticed, that it had to be a mistake.
Glad I didn't buy it.
Yeah sure, the games seem interesting nonetheless and it would have been nice to know the predecessor of one of my all time favourites, but I'm much too untalented for pre 1990 games :/

You are missing out big time :) Trust me, you WOULD enjoy them!

But it seems like you can't progress unless you profoundly studied the manual and learned a lot about the D&D rules.
And this is too time consuming at the moment :(
I admire everyone who accomplishes to play these games without getting stuck it must be real fun once you're into it.

If you have played Myth Drannor you should have no problem with these; the rules are more or less the same :)
A good one to start with would be Gateway to the Savage Frontier. A nice introduction to the series' game mechanics.

I agree, the image for the Pool of Radiance should be changed as the one featured is for a different game. The inaccuracy of the image used now could even cause legal issues.

As far as which game in the series to play first, I would personally begin with Pool of Radiance since it is the first game in the series.

I would be so pleased if this could be included in a future update. The Ruins of Myth Drannor icon bugs me no end. I'm considering investing the time to create replacement icons for myself in my own installation.

Fun fact: The Clyde Caldwell painting used for the original Pool of Radiance cover was not created for the game box at all, but for an Endless Quest solo game book from 1985 called Knight of Illusion:

There's no difficulty setting in Pool of Radiance, they added that in Champions of Krynn.

Just use all humans if you want to transfer your characters. If you don't, don't worry about it; Pool of Radiance adjusts many of the fights to your party strength anyway.

If you're not familiar with the fantasy stereotypes, here's a party for Pool: human fighter, half-elf fighter/cleric/mage, elf fighter/mage, dwarf fighter/thief, human cleric, human mage.

For any other game except Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness, go: human ranger, human paladin, elf fighter/mage, dwarf fighter/thief, human cleric, human mage

For Secret and Pools: human ranger, human paladin, human ranger (change to mage at 9th level) dwarf fighter/thief or elf fighter/mage/thief, human cleric, human mage

Oh, and due to the 1980s gender roles, don't make more than one of your fighters female, because they have lower maximum strength. This was fixed--in the second editiion, which these games predate.
