Is there anything I can do to slow down the map scroll speed? You can adjust mouse speed in the GOG launcher, but there doesn't seem to be any options for the map.

The game is barely playable with this ridiculously fast map. It makes it hard to control the movements of the units.

Reduce the CPU Cycles in DOSBOX

15500 CPU cycles should give you decent scroll speeds.

Thanks a lot, that did the trick!

I wonder why GOG has set it to max by default? I can't be the only one having this problem.
Too, as told by the dosbox_fg.conf file:
" decrease/increase cycles with CTRL-F11/CTRL-F12 keycombo "

Do Ctrl+F11 until the mouse freezes, then do two Ctrl+F12 to make it move again.

How do you save it? I hit F12 to increase the speed in dosbox to 15500 but it says save is illegal when I type save. Am a DOSBOX noob. Can someone be more specific. I love Fantasy General but it scrolls way to fast. Can you hit alt F11 or alt F12 in game. Sorry really confused here.
Doesn't work. It slows down the game, sure, but I just want the mouse scroll down. And it really doesn't slow the game down much. Can't really say this is solved. Still looking for a solution.

It does work but the trick is... just barely touch the borders of the map.

I have mine fairly well set up now. I slowed DosBox right down. Went into battle. Listened for the sound to see if it was choppy. Sped DosBox up until the sound was smooth again. And just barely touch the map borders for slightly better control.

It is not perfect but it is a bit better.

It would be nice if someone could disassemble it and find the map scroll speed though.

Might be a better solution configuring DosBox settings. I'm not a DosBox aficionado though, sorry.

Please let me know if you find one! the map still flashes too fast and my mouse is retarded now (in the actual meaning of the word, ie slow)
Just terrible that Gog would release this without being fully functional on modern PCs. That's the whole point of Gog !!

Solution:
Go to your game folder. Open dosbox_fg.conf with your editor. Scroll down to the line where it says "cycles=auto". Replace "auto" by "15500" for slow scroll speed and slow enemy turn animation speed. I put in "20000" for moderate speed. (Mouse movement speed is not or hardly affected.)

Also there's "sensitivity" value in [sdl] part of .conf, in my linux the touchpad was way too sensitive, setting "sensitivity=25" fixed that.

But I still had to use fixed cycle count to limit ultra fast map scrolling (now it's still a bit fast for my taste with 20k cycles, but I think I can get used to it).

Hi B0SC0,

I have just bought Fantasy General and this problem has not yet been fixed, 2 years after this complaint from Turjake. Is this typical behavior from GOG? In any case, there are many files under DOSBOX. Exactly which one needs to be changed? There is a Configuration program, but only the screen size and mouse sensitivity can be changed. As Turjake pointed out, without this change the program is pretty useless and GOG's efforts remain a noble, but ultimately wasted effort.
