Hi, just old player of fallout.

I enjoyed fallout 2 RP much and got changed my system recently to windows 7.

Than, heard about last release of RP. After enjoying some changes, I was trying to use mapper to waste some more time.

Well, I got GOG version and Original fallout 2 CD both, than there was problem.

With GOG, there was already sfall installed. mapper says
[ you're trying to use sfall with an incompatible version of fallout]
[fallout2.exe was an unexpected size. Expected 0x122800 but got 0x212815]

Well, I have no knowledge about these codes and felt in chaos why it was making error.
Since CD version with RP, mapper had no problem before. But now, even CD installed had problem since I cant patch the file to 1.02 US cause it is windows 7 64bit.

So please, If anyone had encountered and solved this bug, please help.

Hey Canju, I hope it's not too late to help you. I ran into the same problem, and found a solution. As a long time player and avid fan of the series, I felt compelled to sign up on GOG just to be able to help you enjoy this amazing game, along with all the modding capabilities currently available.

I think the primary issue has to do with the mapper running AS the fallout2 executable (fallout2.exe) and sfall not recognizing the mapper as a viable source. You want the mapper to run independently of sfall. The short version of what you need to do:
1. uninstall/reinstall the game, patch and mapper.
2. keep the mapper and fallout2.exe in separate folders.
3. make sure the mapper (and only the mapper) is patched reading from the correct data files.
4. play the game (with a working mapper!)

And that's it.

The long version:

First, uninstall Fallout 2 RP, Fallout 2 and the Fallout Mapper. (this MAY not be necessary, but I had to do this, plus it's good to clean up house every now and then). Now you can re install the base game (the "HUMONGOUS" installation), RP 2.2, and then the mapper. The humongous installation SHOULD circumvent the issue of using the CD to play the game (i.e. you can play it directly from your hard drive). If not, I've attached a few links below to help with that.

Now, when you install the mapper, make sure your mapper and fallout 2 exe are NOT in the same folder. The mapper installation actually asserts you install the mapper into a different directory anyway (Fallout 2 Mapper). For example, my Fallout 2 main directory is C:\Black Isle\Fallout2, and my fallout 2 mapper can be found in C:\Black Isle\Fallout Mapper, keeping the mapper2.exe and fallout2.exe in distinct folders, and the mapper in a different directory than sfall.

Once you have a separate folder for the mapper and the game, you'll need to do the usual patch using F49, which increases the city limit (I'm assuming you've done this before, as you can't use the mapper on any version of Fallout2 without the F49 patch). However, you'll only need to patch the mapper, NOT the fallout 2.exe.

Now, the true source (I think) of your error stems from mapper's configuration file, mapper2.cfg. I was able to open the mapper2.cfg file (using notepad), and change the following lines of code:

[system]
critter_dat=C:\Black Isle\Fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Black Isle\Fallout2\data
language=english
master_dat=C:\Black Isle\Fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Black Isle\Fallout2\data

Keep in mind there are other configurations, but all you need to do is make sure the mapper has the correct location for each of the data files (critter and master). This basically tells the mapper to look here for the sprites, texts and fonts for the game itself. I'd be willing to bet that they were not referenced upon initial installation. This line of code forces the mapper to draw data from the fallout 2 folder (not usually a default). This should allow you to use the mapper and the RP 2.2.

As of right now, I'm able to run the mapper and the RP v2.2.

I really hope you get to enjoy this game as you see fit. I seems to have some issues everytime I install the game or a new patch, but the couple of minutes (hours? haha) are worth it once it's running smoothly. And I hope my efforts help you to do this.
