hey, I'm looking to record some videos of Fallout using wegame, I'm fine with Fallout 1, 2, or Tactics. I'd like to see one of those run in DX8. They all use DX7 minimum, and I'd like to see if there's any way to force it into DX8.
This question / problem has been solved by Petrellimage
what's wrong with 7? Capture program only work for things that are 8+?
What's the highest version of Dx that came out for 98? Maybe 98 compatibility mode could render with DX8

Yeah, it's only 8+
I know I could easily use camstudio, but it's so very, very tricky to setup for the sound, and then, there's fraps, but to be honest with you, fraps won't detect a dx 7 game either.
hmm...
There were no mentions of direct x in the ini. Maybe the Fallout2 Res Patcher can force a specific DX version.
Is there an option to run fallout with opengl? I know thats mostly for 3d but it may be able to do 2d as well (I've not seen opengl since I had a 3dfx voodoo banshee, sixteen whole megabytes!!). There's wrappers that can make opengl stuff look like directx
Directdraw is part of the DX suite and there's a ddraw.dll in the install folder. Perhaps you could try replacing that with a DX8 specific DLL, it'd probably just bitch because it doesn't match the expected checksum but it's worth a shot, the worst that can happen is screaming explosive death...
Oddly enough thats also the best that can happen but in that case it also involves super mutants

I think the fallouts or at least fallout 2 uses directx 5 minimum and maximum of 7. There is no way to make a game run at a higher directx then what it was programmed for.
There are a ton of programs out that capture straight from the screen rather then the program though. I've not tryed any but heres a couple you could look at.

doesn't sfall allow game to be run on directx9?
quote: Use d3d9 in place of the usual ddraw
note that both unofficial patch and restortation project use sfall and it's installed with them. There is version for both FO1 and FO2

Weclock: EDIT: it worked, thank you!

No problem. It had some problems when I tried it over year ago (the version that came with RP 1.1) but more than 10 new version of sfall have come since.
Edit: I have one star now. Can I go write my name and put my hand marks on broadway now? ;) :P
