Hi Everyone,

I'm planning on switching back from console to PC to get in to modding Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

While reading up on modding F3 I found out that Bethesda/Microsoft recently updated Fallout 3 and broke modding in it. Plus they force you to download all the language versions for it making the download around 50GB now.

I don't know if breaking modding was intentional or accidental. Will this effect the GOG version of Fallout 3 or does the GOG version not follow updates from Bethesda/Microsoft? I'm new to GOG and how it works and I'm not sure how this new update will effect the version available here.

I searched the forum and couldn't find any posts related to to the Beth/MS F3 update. My apologies if I missed something that has already been posted about this.

Thanks for any input.
DRM-free versions always updated with delay and huge delay. For GOG there is also more time to update offline installer next to online build in GOG Galaxy.

Currently there is nothing about updating. Version is 1.7.0.3 from 2017.

Thanks!

I finally got my gaming PC put together yesterday and downloaded Fallout 3 and it worked perfectly. I'm using my old 6700K system and added RAM, a PSU, and the RTX3060. I'm running it in 4K resolution and it's smooth as glass. It looks incredible and runs great. I didn't have to do anything other than install an older Direct X version.

In case anyone is interested, here are my system specs.

i7 6700K
48GB DDR4 RAM
EVGA RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 RAM (The base version, not the Ti version.)
EVGA 650 P2 Platinum Power Supply 650 Watt.
500GB SSD drive.
Cheap 50" LG 4K TV as a monitor.
Nothing overclocked. All stock speeds with all the turbo settings for the CPU and RAM turned off.

It's unbelievable how well this is running. The fans haven't even kicked in on my system and I'm running this at 4K Ultra settings.
GOG Galaxy allow you to revert back to previous update. usually to even more older versions as alternatives. But not every build available, most oldest will become "private".
GOG already applied that popular fan patch to disable GFWL, which appears to be the one big change in their update to Steam's version. We have the best of both versions (unbroken mod support and no need for DRM and a slow overlay) so it's better I think to simply not get this update.
I can't launch my game for some reason. I tried everything but it won't load at all.

Sorry to hear that. When I first installed Fallout 3 it wouldn't run on my system either. I'm running Windows 10 Pro on an i7 6700K w/48GB DDR4 RAM, and an EVGA RTX 3060 w/12GB DDR6 RAM. I read GOG's troubleshooting FAQ located here and got it running really quick. I had to download and install some Direct X drivers and it fixed it. I haven't had a problem since.

It's incredible how great this game looks and how fast everything loads. I've only ever played it on PS3 and it was a nightmare. The graphics were horrible, load times could be as much as a minute, it crashed constantly. I never finished it to be honest. My load times are less than 1 second now. As soon as I open a door to go in a building or load a saved game it's done. I don't even have enough time to move my mouse cursor away, as soon as I click 'Open' on a door or 'Yes' when asked if I'm sure I want to load the save file it's done.

I'm running it with Ultra settings in 4K mode with LOD set to max in Advanced settings and it's set to HDR. The only mods I'm using are a mod to improve the HDR lighting, one that adds street lights, and the unofficial patch.

I did have a crash where I had to go through a door to advance in a quest and it crashed every time. I had to disable the unofficial patch, go in the door, save the game, and re-enable the unofficial patch and it's worked perfectly since. I think I've had 3 crashes total in 70 hours of gameplay. 2 of them just required a quick reload and it was fine.

I can't wait to play New Vegas and Fallout 4.
