Interesting interview. I'm waiting for that Interplay Fallout MMO.
That's cool to hear they're working on it. I really hope it's great.

You probably already knew this, but you can register for the Fallout Online beta.
Yeah, I'm sure they'd say anything at this point to avoid any further possible lawsuit. But even if they ARE working on it, there is that part of the interview about communication systems within the game:

"This is a big problem for World Of Warcraft, because the fantasy universe is not compatible with modern communication systems. It would be odd to receive an SMS from a troll. But in a post-apocalyptic world…"

I hope I missed some sarcasm there, because if this is a serious comment, they're having serious identity issues with the Fallout universe. Yes of course, an established mobile network and people running around with mobile phones sounds perfectly fine in a world blown to bits by nukes, and then there is the retro sci-fi setting to consider as well.

Long gone the days of Black Isle...

Maybe they got the same idea as me to make it Radio Communications. Unless they have something better, I think that would fit well and be cool.

A handheld radio broadcasting device powerful enough to transmit signals through the whole wasteland on any frequency, which are allocated on a per-user basis? Nah, I still don't see that could work. ;)

It could be fun if it has a limited range though, if you want to be able to find your friends, just broadcast a message on an agreed channel which they can set to monitor, but it would always be public, someone else might be listening too. Private conversations could be held if people are close by, like being in the same bar. If they're too far away, tough, it's the wasteland, go find them yourself. If you don't like it, go play WoW. I could see that work.

It's a video game, so realism doesn't matter to me. But they'll probably think of something good.

Bethesda brought in the lawsuit because their plan to gain the MMO rights after Interplay coudlnt secure funds to make the MMO backfired at them. I'm all for Interplay making this MMO and Bethesda losing the lawsuit.
Ahhhhh didn't even realize this was happening! Glad it's being made by interplay though :) Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I never liked Bethesda, so yeah, I hope they'll lose. As for Interplay, it's just a twitching corpse now, not even remotely resembling to its former self, making cryptic announcements with no backing proof whatsoever, showing off random post-apocaliptyc paintings once in a while as if they were doing anything.

Anyways, please, prove me wrong, I would be more than happy to play another true Fallout after all these years. But I have the feeling it's not going to happen.

(...still waiting to play Duke Nukem Forever to see if it lives up to the expectations, I might reconsider being a bit more optimistic if it does. :))
