Hey all,
Potential buyer of the Fallout 1+2 holiday pack here
Along with the vista compatibility, inclusion of the original manual, and lack of DRM, a major selling point is the soundtrack to both games.
I was just curious, if anyone knows, about the file format and bitrate of the soundtrack.
Thanks!
P.S. Slightly unrelated: Have only played fallout 3, loved it, which is why I want fallouts 1 and 2. What is the GOG community's opinion on fallout tactics in comparison to fallout 1/2/3?
This question / problem has been solved by Paul_czimage
hmm lets say that best fallout is Fallout 1 (The King), on his tale is Fallout 2 (the prince) long time nothing and then there is Fallout Tactics (good combat system and tactic posibilities) long long time nothing, then there is something called Fallout 3 (i call it foblivion) and just behind is Fallout:Brotherhood of steed (console step in da shit)
F1, F2 is about story, black humor, backstory, character statistics and then story
F3 is about shooting, graphics, shooting and sometimes clicking right dialogue option (but still quite shooter game with some mods)
and regarding soundtrack.... heh i even don't know about it :) thx for info I will download it in afternoon.
Okay, first off, regarding the soundtrack - it is MP3 in 192 bitrate. Pretty good quality.
These soundtracks are absolutely amazing.BUT you have to play the game and soak up the atmosphere - if you will just listen to the songs without playing, I doubt you will like them. They are often very ambient and atmospheric, perfect for the game, but not very melodic for outside listening (and it was intended this way, which is why they are so great).
Second off - Fallout 1 and 2 are very different from Fallout 3 in game mechanics. You no longer see everything through your character's eyes, and you no longer control your character with WSAD keys - you are just clicking with your mouse.
I LOVE Fallout 3, because I love first person perspective games and FO3 is a great RPG with intense atmosphere. And I LOVE Fallout 1 and 2, because they are the best games ever made : ).
But if Fallout 1 and 2 would be remade into first person perspective, and EVERYTHING (story, dialogues, humour, cities, characters) except for perspective and combat would stay the same, I would simply prefer it over the classic isometric perspective : ).
Yeah, I know they're gonna be totally different games, and that's okay. (Arrow Keys + Isometrics suck, by the way. Ever play sonic 3d blast?) Thanks for answering my question, by the way. 192 kbps is better than iTunes, you know.
Anything is better than iTunes : ).
Yeah, I don't like Apple, but I will shut up now so that I won't start a flamewar : ).

F3 (doesn't deserve to call itself Fallout) is shitty game. How can anyone call it RPG?

Now to the topic: When I download soundtracks of any Fallout (1,2, Tactics) There is always a picture insde and I can't open it.. Anyone else having similar problems?

The message is:

Yeah, I just realized I have the same problem. I opened it with a hex-editor, but I can't figure out what kind of file it should be. By bmp, png, rtf, and a lot of other file-types one can see the type of the file by viewing it in a hex.editor. Not by this file.

Just downloaded tactics soundtrack and the "Fallout Tactics.jpg" opens up just fine for me. There is something funky about the file though. Photoshop complains it might be damaged (before opening it perfectly well). It is a jpeg file anyway, 1000x1000 pixels of cd cover art.

Hmmm, I found out, that only program which opens it is Eye of Gnome under linux. I haven't find a viewer under windows which can open it.
