Hello, fellow GoG-ers. Having always played Point & Click games, I am now looking for a new Genre. I have decided to try my hand at RPG's. Because it got such a good reviews, I have chosen Fallout 2 as my very first RPG. My question is, should I have started with Fallout 1 first? And, does anyone recommend any other RPG games, to help introduce me to the genre?

I think you should play Fallout 1 first, as there are references to it in Fallout 2 which you might miss. Also there is a lot more content and some interface improvements in FO2, playing FO1 after FO2 might feel like a step back, while playing them in the proper order would give you improvements to appreciate.

I'd recomment Planescape Torment for you to try. I always wanted to play it, heard many-many good things about it, now I just don't have the time. But if you do, and are prepared for a lot of reading and deep content, that game might be for you.

On more recent titles, if you happen to be a Star Wars fan, you must give Knights Of The Old Republic 1-2 a try, I loved them both.

Have fun!

You have chosen Fallout2, it's ok. Many have played and enjoyed Fallout2 without having played Fallout1 or another rpg before.
If you want to play both games anyway there's of course no reason to start with the sequel.
I'd personally go with fallout 1 first, its a smaller game to start with to get you started on the rpg genre and a little more focused then fallout 2. Also the story is pretty good and links in with what happens in the second game.
I agree with Ralackk on this one. I found the first game to be more fun, even though the second had improvements in a lot of areas.
I fully agree with Waltorious. Even though Fallout 2 has more of everything, the story of Fallout 1 was just, much more compelling. And since Fallout 2 has a bunch of references to Fallout 1, I'd say go with 1 first.
Thank you to everyone who answered. And sorry it took so long to reply to your replies, but i simply could not tear myself away from the game!

How did i NOT know about this game? I have just reached level 7, so I will probably stick with Fallout 2. if one plays this game again with another character, there seems to be many different quests and things for them to find. (I finally understand what reviews mean, when they say, a game has "replay value." I am hooked. :)
Just dont forget that Fallout 1 is a good story and definitely worth playing. When you finish the second one just go ahead and start the first one. You will not regret it.
Fallout 1. Or above mentioned Planescape, being adventure fan, you might just find it better.
Forget FO1 just go get fo2 the intro explains what happened in 1 anyway
